CL - thanks for this input - so good to know that you had and are continuing to have success attributable to the book!

Ya, CL, it really drives home the power the book has but let's face it. One has to be ready to change in order to embrace it. Going out for a fancy-shmancy dinner tonight... club soda with lemon. Yum.

I've just turned 50. Maybe it is about to let the inner rebel out!

Interesting, I think everyone on this thread is in their 50s. Jen - what are you thinking in terms of the tattoo if you decide to take the plunge? Tips - have a nice evening out!

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

I am going to order this on amazon today.

I have the Allen Carr book and although I do agree with many of the things he was saying it wasn't enough to "click" so I continued drinking.

The times when I have remained AF for significant bouts have been when I have made a committment on a thread here at MWO. So hopefully by just recently making a committment and reading this book it will help change my thought process towards AL and keep me sober.

Jen, I have really thin skin on the inside of my wrists too. Am going to a place this weekend to learn more. I have no idea about the particulars, but will report back!

HF - mine is on an e-reader or I would be happy to send it. However, it's the kind of book you might want to carry in your purse or keep handy for referring back to........I'm thinking of ordering the paperbook so I can mark up the pages, put stickies, etc. I love the e-readers but they're not great for being able to access something quickly.

                        Hello All,

I've found the articles on this website to be helpful. They take a very wholistic approach to recovery.

It's great that you are sharing these books/resources with one another.:goodjob:

PS I'm with you unwasted. I like the ereaders but I love having a book that I can mark up, put stickies on, etc.

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

I got so much out of this book. One thing he points out is that AL just doesn't taste very good. Jeez, doh (facepalm!) I don't like the taste of Marmite, so I don't eat it. That's the most valuable thing I'm taking away from it. I also like his suggestion that you *not* avoid places where AL is available unless it's strictly a down and dirty bar where you wouldn't go unless the sole purpose was to get drunk. Tonight I'm going to an art tour and cocktail reception, and I'm looking forward to enjoying it with water or no drink.

I also bought one of the author's books on juicing and I'm in the middle of a 7-day juice program (I already had an electric juicer). I like his plan because it tells you exactly what to ingest and how much/when to exercise. I feel so much better already, and it's all lifestyle change instead of avoiding something. And I had gotten into some slothful ways.

All last month, I worked with a "sober coach" (I'd rather call him a clarity coach), and that really helped too. Little by little I've been replacing visits to AL with healthier activities, and things done with others. I considered going to SMART Recovery meetings, but I didn't want to spend two hours talking about AL and thought the time is better spent jogging, or shopping for fresh produce at one of our wonderful farmers markets. It's been pretty rough going but I'm slowly adding yoga, jogging, etc.

One other thing that's been helpful is recording some of these US doctor programs on TV that are geared toward women my age. One is the Dr. Oz show, and the other is called "The Doctors." It's great motivation, and I'm trying to incorporate at least one small change suggested on these shows every couple of days. They are probably available online somewhere.

Got to say, this is lonely at the moment, but by the end of the year I hope to have some newer, healthier friends.

Crimsons, great detailed post. You're doing exactly what Jason Vale suggests, and that is just "live your life." It sounds like you're doing exactly the right stuff. I think I'll order one of his juicing books also - I have had a juicer for a long time but it just sits there most of the time. Good for you for taking such positive steps to change your life. I'm trying to add similar things - working out, especially. You've REALLY done a LOT, which I think is fantastic. Best of luck and keep us posted.

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Well, juicing is messy and juicers are hard to clean! Then again, I managed to find a lot of time to drink...

I am finding all this daunting. I think the principles of harm reduction figure in here. Any walk taken, veggie eaten, new interest taken on is a step in the right direction, so pat yourself on the back.

I'm in a great position; a book I wrote is in development as a major -- and I mean major -- tv series. It is all so foreign and sudden and also a big change. It's also strangely isolating, and my old circle of friends evaporated. The support I've found here is honestly what's getting me back to me. Im so glad aa is no longer the only mindset!
