            Hello stirly and panno

Did you get your ironing done?

Why is everyone talking about ironing today? You've even got me at it. Is it a Monday morning thing?

Yep - nine tops altogether and a tablecloth. Don't really like ironing so I let it pile up a bit and then give it a go. Never iron stuff like sheets and such. Can't be bothered.

How's your day going, Reccie? I guess Panno just stopped by for a bit. I'm expectin Mr. Stirly home very soon so if I disappear, you'll know I've gone to feed him. And myself of course...

My day's going quite well stirly. I woke up feeling fairly desperate for a drink, but managed to overcome the temptation and the feeling passed after a while. Been doing a little housework and following the financial markets and the goings on in Greece. Honestly, I find the incompetence of the Eurozone politicians (of all political persuasions) unbelievable at times.

                  How's your day been?

I try to NOT follow the goings on because they depress me. I would like your read on the situation tho' as an outsider and not someone directly affected by the economy of the country. I really would like to know what they're saying about Greece in other countries. Maybe KTAB would throw in his 2 cents worth as well.

Glad your day is going well and :goodjob: for not giving in to those craving...:huggy

Gotta go - Mr. Stirly will be home any moment.

P.S. I hope you like my new avatar. Basically I was looking for something that would make me smile when I saw it. Of course it had to have a touch of dark mauve in it too...

Ooooh, I could talk about the Greek economy all day long, stirly!

Essentially, there is absolutely no way Greece can avoid defaulting on its debts. What the politicians don't seem to be able to grasp is that each time they implement austerity measures, they reduce the size of the Greek economy, making the outstanding debt larger relative to the size of the economy. They also reduce the tax receipts needed to reduce the size of the budget deficit.

With another bailout or two, the eurozone ministers may be able to postpone the inevitable default for a few or even several months, but all that will do is increase the eventual amount of money lost. If the Greek government had set about reducing the budget deficit a few years ago, the situation might have been retrievable, but it's far too late now. :upset:

It seems inevitable to me that Greece will have to exit the eurozone with a devalued currency that will make Greek exports more competitive.

Sorry if all that sounds gloomy, but it's what I believe and I've studied the situation a lot.

PS, I wouldn't want to have any money in a Greek bank right now.

A Greek default seems almost inevitable. With GDP shrinking by about 7% in the past year, the govt struggling to meet the conditions set by IMF and Eurozone, and the low appetite for a further bailout by specifically Germany, you're basically fecked. Sorry...
