The wee trip away was grand. Most important purchase was me new Winter coat. 30% off.




Hotel was rather nice if a little in need of updating, but the staff were fabby and the food was wonderful. Me and Mr JC were the only guests on Sunday night bit spooky in a great big old place like that. Thank dawg we weren't drinking as it was 2 floors up along a corridor and up a wee spiral staircase..........pant pant,gasp.

It is totally gorgeous the coat, can't see me buying another one for a while.

Do you know if they'd brought Basil in, it would have been very like that.

One of the sad things we saw over and over again were boarded up hotels, bars and restaurants.

ooh I love a bargain

I bought my winter coat in May for 1/3rd of the original price. It's purple (no surprises there) and the way the weather is going I will be wearing it soon

Now I'm going to sound well ancient here, but with living oop north we've never really had boom times. We've just lurched from one recession to the next.

Me and Mr JC count ourselves as lucky, even though we're up to our ears in debt we can get by, but I this feels different. It's affecting everyone.

The number of businesses that have closed here is frightening to say the least. There are not just shops closed and for rent signs in the windows, but whole office buildings and huge showrooms from former automobile franchises and such. The construction business has come to a dead halt and the banks aren't giving out loans to buy new apartments, etc., even if someone thinks they can afford it. And of course, it's a chain reaction, because when construction dies, not just the construction company loses, but plumbers, electricians, bricklayers, painters, plasterers, etc. are off work, and the list goes on and on - cement companies, paint companies, etc. etc. And heaven only knows when it's going to end and what will happen to this country. I imagine some of you saw pictures of the demonstrations and destruction in the centre of Athens again today. It breaks my heart to see those pictures. I felt so sorry for the tourists who have come to visit this beautiful country, who were holed up in the hotels around Constitution Square, afraid to leave the hotel due to the demonstrators throwing pieces of marble and Molotov cocktails. Never mind the stench from the garbage that has been uncollected for almost two weeks now. Anyone visiting Athens these days will leave with a very grim picture indeed.

Pingu, that coat's a lot gorgeous. Lurrrve the colour.


There's still masses of building goin on around here, Stirls. Affordable housing starting around the ?200 thousand mark. We thought we'd get two. One each for the kids...............Hang on while I check my calender for a month of Sundays or see if there's any flying pigs.

Evening folks, dads good thanks Stirly. It's been a crazy few days all round, DW's uncle passed on Monday though. Lovely, funny, caring guy he was, have known him nearly 30 years. We are here for but a short time I think. Ok now I have depressed you all with that thought. I am off to top my pizza off and settle down in front of the footy.
