Advice and ideas in one place

I thought it would be good to centralize some ideas and remedies people find are working.

In one place, where everyone could share their success or attempts and other to aid 'waying ourself out' from the problem we all here share.

Hope this thread will allow to find all opportunities to find the 'cure' allevation and reduction in intake or even thinking.

    I shall start with one.....

Visualisations are so powerful. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and in a sense NLP ( which are similar in terms of rewiring the bran to think differently ) are powerful tools. Ha, I know theory, bit practical application of things is a lit of discipline and devotion. I dare to say that predominant number of alcoholics are thought related cravings. So body does not need it, but brain generates the substance desire through thinking and cognitive trigger that deprives us of pleasure ( in spite of having one while not drinking for few days) and getting sudden boost in cravings that occur through linkage between alcohol intake and pleasure.

Pain and pleasure. The most known oppositions, and through your imagination by creating intesnse sick feeling can sever the connection between like and dislike in yor brain.

A lot of people dismiss that and think that medication is only solution, also dismissing of being negative about therapy.

I would give a simple task. For one day, for one bright and ordinary day, I would ask someone to think that every alcohol there is is a poison and kills your internal organs. With massive visualisations of destruction and pain related to the damage to your body.

The feeling of cells being destroyed, shattered and you being eaten away every time you drink. For one day. And day by day, even alternating days, as long as one day of the week, is focused on that sensation.

It's all about a focus and in a sense having OCD with this one thought for one day.

It is a starting point in rewiring your brain.

Urine and sickness mentioned on other thread ( whee alcohol is associated with urine like liquid) are simply alternative options to the same method.

This is something that can help millions, not cure, but be a monitorable point where cravings are diverted to the other side of us.

It works, with other approaches this can make miracles.......Discipline and at the same time easiness of doing so. At the end of the day it's just like......Do not think about a pink elephant, please.......What do you do, you think about pink elephant.......but you have to get onto obsession level to keep thinking about it until your linkage between pleasure and self created cognitively pain makes its own highway and not just a little forest path that can be easily overgrown.

Amazingly this can be applied to every moment of your life and you can even make your errands and then realize, 'Oh I forgot about something , of yes, alcohol is a poison that destroys my cells, stay away from it'.

It's a tool, one of many, but it requires repetition, repetition and reinforcement. It may make you feel sick physically, but it will be a different way than a craving for booze....it will be a healthy sick feeling......

Hope that will give some guidance to some who cannot or find it difficult to go through multiple processes of quitting and layers of attempts......I't an easy rescue pattern and combined with other methods will do magic.

Hope to hear other oprnions and corections to this way, and plenty more other ideas.....Please write, we are all here to help one another and oneselves.

There are so many paths and no easy way...all the best.

I got my start by incorporating everything except the prescription medication in the My Way Out Book. (downloadable from the Health Store here). Supplements & hypnosis CD's (also from the Health Store here), diet and exercise suggestions from the book. I have subsequently added AA attendance as well, and have some routines that keep my head in the AF game on a daily basis.

        A couple other ideas....

SMART Recovery? | Self Help for Addiction & Alcohol Abuse is a CBT based program with a support forum, scheduled chat meetings as well as informal chat, and face to face meetings in some areas.

Women for Sobriety is another recovery program with forum support and also face to face meetings in some areas. Women for Sobriety, Inc.

There are also lots of great ideas in the https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...box-27556.html

There are also a variety of prescription meds that can be considered tools for the journey. Baclofen, Topomax, Naltrexone, Antabuse, Campral to name a few. More info in the Meds section and if you have a question about a med, shout it out and somebody will respond.

Lots of different stuff to try and I know more will be coming! Great thread idea. Good luck to you!

There is always a soultion, advice nd remedy, pseudo as most of it is has not been tested. Research, tests, trials are only fragmented but there is nothing for the masses. Baclosefn, Topa, Naltrox, any kind of medication is a dopomibne to the head. I wonder id there s a way, which I know it exists, to be able cognitively disperse the cravings and be AF or moderation time. I believe it is, there is. Not p[ropagating anything here, but Cognitive attitude is a key to the success

Brain can generate substances and brain can be deficient of, but brain can produce, and we should know it.........it's all about focus...........I know as I am an alcoholic and have managed to rewire my brain, it hurts but it works.........
