      Arvo Undies,

I've just come in to unclench my buttocks after doing some scary stunt mowing on the top of the dam bank. Doesn't help that I remember a woman died last year after her ride-on slipped down the side of a dam bank and trapped her underneath and she drowned. Not the sort of elegant demise I have envisaged for self.

Missy - lovely kitty story and glad you had a top time with Mr B, although sorry you've got a lurgy.

Ella - I have no doubt that hubby will love the new you!

Blondie - I hear you on the bath. I've got a lovely old claw foot job but never installed it because I just can't justify the water usage.

Saucy - just buy black socks. Same brand. One size. Problem sorted. The littlest one will grow into them soon enough. In the meantime, what's a little discomfort ...

So .... Bridgeeee ... preserving, eh? Growing zukes? Here ya go:

      Bread and butter zucchini pickles*
(from Stephanie Alexander's The Cooks Companion)

Makes about 1L and apparently they keep for 2 months in the fridge. Can't attest to that because mine have never lasted that long.

      1kg small zucchini sliced
      3 onions finely sliced
      1/2 cup salt

      3 cups white-wine vinegar
      1 1/2 cups sugar
      1 Tbsp yellow mustard seeds
      1 tsp dry mustard
      2 tsp ground turmeric

Toss the zucchini and onions with the salt in a non-reactive bowl and cover with water. Let the vegetables soak in the brine solution for 1 hour, then rinse well and drain in a colander. Return to the bowl.

Combine the remaining ingredients in a saucepan and stir over a gentle heat till the sugar has dissolved. Bring to a boil and pour over zucchini. Leave to cool.
Pack into sterilized jars and refrigerate.

Use your V-slicer to make really thin slices of both zukes and onions. Easy peasy and *It's a pisser! (that's a gastronomical term)

      Hiya Techie!!!!!!!!

Hi Tawny...I really hope he does like me and that I am not a narky cow when he comes home.

We have a local protest group here where we put all our odd socks on the scaffolding of the business we are protesting against.......it is a great home for our odd socks......I have no idea of course why sticking odd socks on a derelict building will make them restore it any faster though....... the protest has been going for years now and the building is still derelict and the socks keep coming.

Not fair!! I have been trying to get Stephanie Alexander since I perved over it when I stayed with my niece and her husband about 6 months ago. I got an email from Amazon saying they cant source it and have cancelld my order. I cant find it anywhere in NZ!! Is it easily available in Oz?????? (because if it is I am going to get various other nieces and nephews to bring one over during their visits over the next couple of months!!)

Ella - there is a guerrilla knitting group here that does similar stuff. I love it - symbolic and doesn't hurt anyone

As a matter of interest, are you all having occupation groups in your cities?? (As in "Occupy Wall St") I can imagine it in Sydney and Melbourne, but dont know whether it is going on elsewhere. Apart from here

I have had bad experiences with Fishpond.....I have blacklisted them. I find that their version of In Stock doesn't mean that it is in fact in their stock. And postage is slow here to WA. But they are in NZ so postage might be faster for you Missy.

There are also booksite in the UK that post free all over the world. Bookdepository is one.

There is a small protest on in Perth but it doesn't get much media.

Tawny - thanks for the link!! I have purchased and it tells me that I should have it before Xmas

In return, you might like to purchase this 2012 calendar for yourself

I always hate it when I hear that people have had bad experiences with NZ firms. I apologise on their behalf Ella, and shall give them a good talking to if i get the chance!

Occupy Brisbane are on their 3rd site in Roma Street Parklands - kept being moved on and now they've been told this is it - they have made their point...come a long way since Joh BP havent we?

I will find somewhere to stick my odd socks - perhaps on the bean plantation.

Having trouble ordering the last Eragorn book from Amazon - never ordered before and they dont like how I've put in my address. Help??

Had huge bowl of spagghetti at the restaurant and now I must work for it, ie pay wages. Then will really work for it and go for a walk, back soon...
