    Undies in November

Morning all and a big Hi to Sapphire :new:

Husband is home in a few hours. I am feeling really good so far...........but I always do until the urge to drink takes over........going to keep extra busy these next few days instead.

The mighty dollar.....I once worked for the government on a tender to privatise the prison system............they were going to let the good old catholics run it and impose all their religous beliefs unto the system........just because they had the cheapest tender....Luckily it didn't happen because it was election time and they couldn't face the blacklash. Some of the things this organisation wanted to impose was very sad and I am a catholic too but it was wrong.

      Morning everyone

Anyone heard from Rgas? Is she still on hols?

Saffy - sad but true about the charities - I've experienced same with dog rescues. Looking forward to hearing your good news!

Sunshine - We have a king bed yet still are confined to the edges due to the 2 teensy dogs! Neighbours dogs bark a lot and another neighbour has threatened to slit their throats (unfortunately, she backs on to our property so am scared she'll do something to my dogs!)

Missy (or anyone else) have you been to Waiheke Is? I want to spend some recuperating time there before meeting the in-laws but not sure where to go. In fact, I might stay there the whole trip and ferry into Auckland each day.

      Have a wonderful day..

My washing machine refused to drain a few years ago. Got the repair man around and the source of the problem was socks blocking up the drain. Apparently it is an engineering dilemma - in order for the drum to be able to agitate quickly enough to be able to get rid of moisture they need to leave a space between the drum and the external drainage thingummy. But it allows small things to be violently expelled into the external casing.

My problem, I was informed by my washing machine repair man (and he had a big frown on his face when he said it, like I was a naughty school girl) was that I obviously over-filled my washing machine. "Never fill it over the load line" he cautioned (with an ominous tone in his voice).

I was suitably chastised, but now I end up feeling like I'm wasting water with all the washing we do

Blondie - Waiheke is terrific!! I would thoroughly recommend it. But it sort of depends a little bit on what sort of experience you want to have. If you want to stay there the whole time and commute into Auckland, then stay at Oneroa, which is close to where the ferry comes in (Public transport on Waiheke is a bit intermittent). If you want beaches and good cafes, it is hard to go past Onetangi. But you can also go a bit further out and away from all the tourist places .... the disadvantage being that if you decide that you dont want to get away from it all you are a bit stuck with taxis. I stayed at a place called one7five last year for a couple of days. Cheap as chips, compostable toilet, only solar-powered LED lighting (which would be okay in summer, but I must confess that I got a little irritated by it when I stayed as it cut back on my reading time!!)

I have lots of questions and thoughts about the NGO stuff, having got involved with issues around homelessness amongst women. But I'll address them when my head is cleared of tonsillitis and it's ill effects.

                  Thanks Miss

Great advice there; I'm now thinking Oneroa. Will narrow my search to accommodation there. Just want relaxation but with the option to eat out; am over Auckland (actually have never really liked the CBD) and I think the mere fact of commuting to Auckland each day by ferry would be relaxing enough to set me up for a day with the rellies. Ohhhhmmmmm...

                    Undies in November

the ferry trip is indeed lovely and relaxing!! And is very much designed with commuters in mind (eg; you can buy a basic breakfast on board!!).

It can be popular and a bit expensive at this time of year though, so I wouldn't hang around in terms of booking accommodation.

Just had "hire a hubby" bloke through. My garden has got away on me and desperately needs clearing, but I just dont have the time. Also I want some raised beds put in. Anyway, he reckons it can all be done before Xmas which is good.

Partly the reason why I finally got around to organising this is pride ........ over the last couple of days, it has become evident that I am having a family invasion over Xmas. It started off with a couple of people, but has now grown and grown and the current count is 14 people for Xmas lunch. Yikes!!! It will be fine as long as the weather is okay and we can spill outside. And everyone will bring something, so it is not as if it will put me to a huge amount of work, and I dont get too stressed out in those situations anyway. But I just want the house and garden to look nice before everyone arrives

I guess this means that we will be getting a Xmas tree after all!!

                      Thanks Missy

You and Tawny with your hired help got me thinking and, whilst we are happy to work round the garden and have all the tools, I thought it would be really nice to have my partner come home and just relax. This weekend of hard gardening made me realise that too. So, I have a "man" coming round tomorrow to clean up, so we can get on with the pottering.

Am happy as my partner is doing way too much betwixt work and study. Oh and I thought he'd be miffed/put out, but he is happy and relieved too. Didn't want to show he couldn't do everything :-)

And he's happy to stay on Waiheke! Can't wait

                        Arvo all,

Well my first regular stint with Mellors didn't eventuate today because he's injured his hand and cancelled all his gigs for the week. That's ok - he had the good manners to ring and is certain that he'll be right by next Tuesday. Even if he only does 2 hrs per week, he'll certainly make a difference to my list of jobbies.

10,000 years ago when I was still a working person and living in Fitzroy I hired Veronica, a ripper, sprightly pensioner to tidy me up. She basically dusted, vacuumed, did the bathroom, shone the taps, mopped the floor etc. It was a small terrace house and she'd get it all done in about 4 hours. It was wonderful coming home on a Friday night to a spotless house where all I had to do was kick off my shoes and arrange some flowers . Well worth the $'s I spent and I was more than happy to supplement her income, all cash in hand.

My mother of course was horrified because, according to her, only rich or lazy people had cleaning ladies. I was neither but I did value my time enough not to get bogged down with domestic crappage at weekends if I could find a way around it.

So ... if you can stretch the budget a tad, you'd be silly not to enlist some help.

                        Now ... where is
                        that Raggsy?

                          Hi Tawny

I used to have cleaners too, but always felt guilt because there was no reason I couldn't do it. But now I am realising that getting someone to do that "stuff" so we can just enjoy our dotage sounds logical (and, as you say, helping someone who needs/wants some extra $). Unfortunately, my rabid dogs prevent me from getting home help, but the garden is a start.

Blondie, dont feel guilty! It is nice to be able to chill out when we are not working! My parents worked their butts off every weekend to keep the house and garden looking good ......... but in between that and making sure that us wee tackers weren't getting into mischief, they lost their connection with each other. My mother is similarly horrified that we have a cleaner (a very lovely woman, who is a Russian immigrant, and a qualified electrical engineer) because she worked as a cleaner herself and looked down on people who were "too lazy to clean their own toilets". :H I quite like doing housework, but Mr B is completely useless at it. I realised very early on in our relationship that there was a choice between having some home help or spending the rest of my life feeling cross and resentful. The cleaner comes in once a week for an hour on Wednesday to clean the bathroom, mop and vacuum and tackles anything else needing doing. Mr B does most of the washing/laundry, is the IT geek so I dont need to do anything about that, and does a good share of the meal preparation. I do the rest of the cleaning and most of the gardening and other odd jobs. It works out pretty well.

Have just located Rags' email address so am off to check whats up and whether she doesn't love us any more!!
