Uepi is rather unspoilt... a 50 KvA generator supplies power.

Rainwater is collected in a series of 50,000 litre tanks. (They are experiencing water shortage at the moment and are praying for rain.)
There is limited internet provided by solar power on a nearby island which bounces occassionally onto Uepi.
You can pick up BBC world service and Radio Australia if you have a large enough radio and arial.

And I didn't miss not knowing what was happening in the rest of the world.

Food as you can see is local produce.

The owners are VERY environmentally conscious.

Amongst other things they have set up a fund for helping kids get through school.... fees, uniforms, kerosene for their lamps, food, travel and boarding expenses etc. I teamed up with my 3 buddies and have pledged $600 a year for the next 3 years.
Aims:
1. THE AIM OF THE MAROVO SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME IS TO HELP AS MANY
MAROVO STUDENTS AS POSSIBLE GAIN A SUCCESSFUL SECONDARY
EDUCATION.
2. STUDENTS FROM ALL MAROVO FAMILIES WILL BE GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY
TO BENEFIT FROM THE SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME.
3. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO FAMILIES WHO HAVE NO CASH
INCOME OR WHO ARE IN A VERY DIFFICULT FINANCIAL OR SOCIAL
SITUATION, THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN.
4. PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS (FROM THE ABOVE FAMILY
CATEGORIES)
 WHO ARE WORKING VERY HARD AT SCHOOL AND ACHIEVING AT THE
HIGHEST LEVEL POSSIBLE FOR THEMSELVES.
 WHO OBEY THE SCHOOL RULES
 WHO HAVE A VERY POSITIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS EDUCATION
 WHO’S SCHOOL REPORT SHOWS THAT ALL OF THE ABOVE ARE TRUE

They get up to 4 metres of rain a year, but experiencing a dry spell at the moment.

Rags, I'm going to start taking William and his friends on my trips!! It makes me look at the world in a different way, and looking at your photos reminds me of what a pleasure it is to do that!

Orf to bed - think there is only a bit of tonsillitis left and I am now a bit behind on work, so will need to race in to the office very early in the morning!

I was swithering between the crab, lobster and fish. Would it be overly gluttonous to have all 3? Do they have doggy bags? And I can't go past the creme caramel (but brulee is my favourite).

We are having major discussions re rellies trip, so I may still be in the Solomons yet :-)

Rags.......your beautiful pictures are driving me crazy......all that beautiful food that I can't eat.:bigcry:

Hubby is home......no booze in the house.....am a little cranky but that is more diet related. God, I have amazing willpower today............I managed to drive the car without crashing while he devour Maccas in the passenger seat. :upset: And I just come home to see an open car of Coke.:upset:
