And checked out their veggie garden... would you believe they are able to grow lettuce here!

      And smelled some more flowers...

Then a final hug for Panda, and Penguin was on his own with Jenny who promised to post him home when she gets back to Oz.

OMG!!!! I've done here head in too!!

        Hi Blondie,
Josh and Jason (the better looking one) both had the hots for me, but Jenny, Josh's mum, was keeping an eye on the boys.... They said I was a stag magnet!!!

Just for you I'll see if I have another photo of the boys....

Can't remember what the poucha salad was.... I'll ask one of the others. I think they may have meant a pasta salad.

Sorry Red, I'm 600 miles away fromMelbourne. Buit Tawn and Mr G may be able to help.

          arvo undies!

Rags - those photos are amazing! I love the school ones :l

Blondie - sounds a bit worrying with your MIL. How old is she if you dont mind me asking? It is not that great that you cant get information ........ lots of organisations here are very "precious" when it comes to information and hide behind the Privacy Act, but usually its because they are too lazy to work out a good solution for everyone.

The weather is getting so much better and I got a bit sunburned today!! It definitely feels like 2012 is just around the corner! However, I'm trying to restrain myself and just knuckle down for the next two weeks and get a bunch of work done so that I can relax after that. I'm trying to get up the nerve to swim in the harbour as the temperatures are improving every day - almost did it today until I read the report of swarms of jelly fish up to 2m long and went for a walk instead!! :H

I'm definitely starting to get into the Xmas spirit! I think it is partly because I'll have some of my lovely nieces and nephews with us this Xmas, and they all have wee ones and we are going to contribute to their Santa Sacks. However, Mr B and I have agreed that we want to keep things in proportion so we've decided that (apart from food) anything we buy, we will buy two of with the second purchase going to the Inner-City Mission.

He certainly is... and he is doing SO much for the local people. He is on the board of the local hospital at Seghe,(well he more or less IS the board of directors) he has started up a truly sustainable small scale community timber company, where all the profit goes to the villagers, he is unsuccessfully trying to stave off Malaysian foresters and palm oil companies from stripping the Solomons of its forests, He and Josh go round the villages talking about AIDS, STDs and general health issues, and the list goes on. Uepi directly employs 50 villagers, plus fishermen for our lovely dinners etc. , and then there are the villagers who do the lovely carvings, so the resort is the lifeblood so to speak for probably a couple of hundred or more people. He's also very involved with the education scholarship scheme. He's only 25 or 26.

thanks for photos and letting us holiday vicariously through you Rags.

Missy - My MiL is in her 90s. I eventually managed to get through to someone and, as I suspected, she really isn't as bad as she made out. They reckon she'll be sent home today. I understand it is worrying for her though...

Pity about the palm oil/logging people; they seem to get their way, as in Papua.

But what a wonderful couple of young men!

Those pics are delightful. The little leaping tacker in the yellow shorts just makes my heart sing. And that looks like a pretty cool hydroponic system they've got set up. Full marks to the big boys and their incredible work. We've learnt so much about other places through your travels Raggsy - thanks for your generosity of sharing and I really hope your face straightens up a bit. I mean ... how are you going to manage to eat with the girls next Saturday?

We never followed up re the school you visited in Africa. Is there anything we can send to the school in Uepi? Is the postal service more reliable there?

Blondie - good news and gives you a bit of breathing space until you're booked to go.

Bridge - if you're normally calm I'd suggest you chuck an almighty screeeeecher and if you're normally loud I'd suggest you address the offenders in a clipped whisper.

Saucy - GACK! That's all I can say re the rotten sangers.

So, I've got a bit of an embuggerance happening. For a while now I've noticed a section of the floor in the bedroom of the main house has felt a bit "spongy". Bit the bullet today and lifted the carpet only to find I've got bloody dry rot. Not a major drama but an embuggerance I didn't want to deal with. Will get some advice from those who know stuff.

Apart from that, top day was had here but afternoon pollen has stopped play for the day. Gesundheit.

ERK the dreaded dry rot. Much damage?

Postal service in Solomon non existant outside Honiara. Stuff gets sent to Uepi and just doesn't arrive.
So no go sending stuff to the schools there. That's why 3 diving buddies and I have joined together to donate to the education scholarship scheme . Next time I go there (and I will) I'll let you know and I'll be taking exercise books, crayons etc etc. The govt funding is also very haphazard.

I'll send an email to Uepi in Aust and see if I can get stuff to them via the Vic Head Office. I'm getting photos printed of the native workers and will be sending them to Victoria and asking if they can be put in the next load of stuff someone is taking over. I get the feeling it's all just a bit too hard.

Having commandeered a whole section of the Undies to-day, I'll leave you to it, except for a couple of the photos from yesty.
