    Oh Panno! :l
This must be so heart breaking for you :upset: Will you stay away? Or would going give you some sense of closure?

I'm so very sorry, my dear.

No I'll be staying away not for anyone else but him he had enough grief, I will go somewhere and say a prayer for him
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.

                      Good evening Troopers!!

I apologize in advance for posting such a huge multi-quote but it's easier for me since I want to reply to a lot of posts.
Recluse;1202469 wrote: It's a bit early in the day for heavy stuff, but I didn't get round to replying to stirly yesterday.

Stirly, it's hard to see how Greece can remain in the eurozone in the long run, regardless of the outcome of the referendum, because the austerity measures required of it by the rest of the eurozone countries are simply too onerous and the pain being felt by the Greek people will go on for too long (decades). In order to become competitive and begin to grow again, Greece needs to return to a devalued drachma and default on all of its debt.

The policy makers are in denial and are doing what they do best, which is kicking the can down the road. Trouble is, they're rapidly running out of road.

A number of Greek banks have lent a lot of money to the Greek government, so if Greece defaults on its debt those banks may go bust and obviously the Greek government will not be in a position to bail them out. I would not want to have money in a Greek bank right now.

Reccie and K, if we return to the drachma, and a devalued drachma at that, what will the outcome be for the country? We need foreign investments, we need to increase our industry. Many large companies have gone to other countries such as Bulgaria and Romania and set up new factories there because the cost of labour is so much cheaper there. And the cost of buying land and building a factory as well. Will we have a situation like the Great Depression? My Father told me that his Father had managed to buy three houses in the small city they lived in and during the depression, he sold two of them to feed his family. My Mother-in-Law told me that here in Greece they used to grind up carob seeds to use for flour because flour was so expensive. Olive oil was a luxury and meat wasn't even heard of. They lived on things like lentil soup and baked beans. They couldn't even afford milk for their kids to drink. It scares the heck out of me to think of my kids going through something like that. I don't give a rat's ass about us. We've lived with very little and we can do it again. It's my sons I'm worried about. They've both found the girls they want to marry and start a family with and frankly, if things are so bad financially, I don't know if they'll be able to afford to have children and they all want them so badly, both my guys and their girls. It's just so sad to think about that.

Well, it looks like the Undies are going to join the Army!! Ellaq - good to see you here. I don't think we've met. I'm Canadian but I live in Greece. Lots of young folk here looking into going to Australia for work from what I've heard. I'm sure you know that Australia already has a large population of Greek nationals and second and maybe third generation Greek-Australians. (I hope I worded that properly.) So many of them could have close or distant relatives living in Australia. I'm sure that would help them in finding a decent job with a decent salary.

Hi Stirly, good to see the referendum is off of the table, that would have been a disaster. In regard to the economy it is awful here too and another tough budget is on the way. Even today the gov closed down some embassies overseas to cut costs. It might not be ideal but at least your sons are young and could always move abroad for a couple of years if there was no work. Being part of the EU makes this so much easier. Traditionally Ireland and Greece have always been poor countries. We exported our people to find work. There is purported to be a world wide Irish diaspora of 80 million, amazing when you consider we only have a population of only 4.5 million.

Don't know about our sons moving abroad. Even tho' both of them work long hours, they are very much accustomed to the Greek way of life. Not so easy to give that up.
