Today is the start of Thanksgiving week here in the US. Our holiday is on Thursday and at the core of this holiday is the theme of giving thanks. However, methinks that this theme gets lost amongst the glorious turkey and all the fixings, the whirlwind of travel and catching up with relatives, and all the preparations and anticipation of this November holiday, which catapults us into the frenzy of the Christmas season. In our family, when everyone is seated and we are about to dig into TG dinner, we go around the table and state what we are thankful for. In years past, when I was the family member hosting TG, I sent out invitations and asked guests to bring a flower to add to a "gratitude bouquet", and although the bouquet was a mish-mash of colors and blooms, it was utterly beautiful in it's own way, since my family contributed to building it. It would then become our centerpiece. In addition, when they brought their flower, I asked them to write on a piece of paper, what they were grateful for. After dinner, we would shuffle these papers in a hat and then go around the table and pick one. So, the reader would not be the same as the writer, and it was a fun way to read someone's elses thoughts of gratitude as well as have your own paper read by someone else.
As I woke up this morning thinking about what I am grateful for (I do this every day upon rising), I thought this would be a perfect time to post a gratitude link on MWO to kick off TG holiday week. So, I'll start off, here are the things in life that I am most grateful for. Please add your own list and remember to live in the "Attitude of Gratitude"...not just for Thanksgiving but every day. You will see positive changes coming your way by living in this state of mind. I know I do!
I am most thankful for:
My Health
My loving and wonderful Husband
My family and my friends
The health of all those I love
My Sobriety
MWO and all of the beautiful people here that I am getting to know :l
My cozy home, food to fill my belly, water to drink, clothes to keep me warm and a roof over my head!
A full-time job that I enjoy
My adorable pets
My Youth
My appreciation of being mindful of the present moment
Nature and the elements-not only in the height of summer but also the dead of winter and everything in between
A sense of humor
A sense of humility
A sense of peace
Quiet time alone
My spirituality
Books
The fact that life is a journey and that each day is unique. It's the journey to savor and not the destination!
There is so much more I could go on about but then I'd never get this thread started :H
Please jump in and share your thoughts on gratitude. Happy Thanksgiving to all!:h
