    Army thread 25th November

I wasn't that keen on sprouts before but don't think I'll ever be able to get that picture out of my mind. :argh:

Perhaps you could apply your particular brand of aversion therapy to other things Oney .. chocolate and crisps would be helpful to me ... :H

              Hi Guys,

Rob just back from the doctors and was told he has a Inguinal Hernia. He cannot lift weight and has to go in and tell them in work that he can no longer do the physical work he has been doing. He has to go to see a consultant and then go and have surgery.

Has anyone had this done?? Or know anything about it.

He is a bit gutted because he can no longer go to the gym and his whole work life will change.

I always though a hernia was something not serious kinda like an ingrown toenail...would appreciate anyones input.

As a sidenote to my post, I think the doctor may have meant (he was foreign with bad english) that Rob could not lift anything UNTIL the surgery is done and afterwards he will have to take it really easy...(no deadlifting weights and squats?/

I hven't a bleedin clue. Bu t we don't have medical insurance so could be on the waiting list fucking years.

I always though a hernia was something not serious kinda like an ingrown toenail...would appreciate anyones input.Mr. Stirly had two of them. Lower abdomen, right above the groin area - one on each side. Had them operated on years and years ago. In 1985 if I'm not mistaken. Just to let you know how long ago it was. They sewed the muscle wall back together where it had split apart and then stitched a light-weight metal mesh thingey over the spot so that it wouldn't open up again. The one on the left side was worse and he had it done first. After tho' he found that the tightening up on the one side put strain on the other and he had the second surgery a month later. He lifts heavy boxes every day but is careful as to how much weight he lifts and how he lifts it. He complains once in a while that he feels a tenderness on the left side after a particularly strenuous day but that's about it. I guess the secret is to being careful. As for the exercise, I'm sure if Rob talked to a good physiotherapist he could find out which exercises he could still do. Anyway - don't know if this is any help but it's our experience. Also, if he's caught it in the beginning and not let it go on for a couple of years like Mr. Stirly did, I'm sure that he will have a quick recovery. Oh, I just remembered - the second surgery was done the end of April and in August we went on vacation and we played beach raquets which can require a lot of jumping and reaching and such. He and I played a lot and he didn't have any problem, he was just was more careful in jumping high and didn't play for hours like we usually did.

                        No problem.

Tipster - hope your day off has you feeling better.

Startypants - you must be so pleased to have your first pay cheque from your new job.

KTAB - good news on getting that bit of work. Every bit helps and you never know - it could lead to a reference for another job.

:wavin: to the rest of the Troopers, wherever you might be.

                        Any lukers out there? :sofa:

You're probably right about that - even at high times like Christmas it doesn't take that long. Maybe he didn't get mailed out when he was supposed to. I remember when SweatyBetty sent Tigger to me that she had asked her husband to mail him on Monday and on Thursday she discovered that he had forgotten to send the parcel. So she ended up sending him by courier. Maybe something like that happened.

I think it's weird, there is no talk from the previous host to say he is defo on his way etc etc..it doesn't add up, I have sent stuff to Murica in half that time.
