    You are right Duck

That's a good way to put it! That is the only choice. I can remember being at parties when
everyone is preparing to leave and I'm actually scrounging around in the fridge for more wine. If I was so inclined I could think of a LOT of terrible terrible stuff, but I'm not doing that.
There's no point in dwelling in the past. The one drink will become way more than that, and it's nice to face the truth.
    Have a good weekend.

      Agreed.
And we only need to say NO to that first drink.
Very timely reminder for me as well - thank you duckling! :l

            WE/I HAVE A CHOICE

So very true Spuds. We do have a choice. I choose to remain AF this weekend because they are so much more fun (even if I don't do much) then a AL weekend.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

Spuds, we have a lot of waterfalls in my area. They are beautiful, enticing, innocent looking. But the number of people killed by them is astounding, mainly because people mistake that beautiful, placid water at the top for safety, then slip on all the moss growing on the rocks, and the current takes them over. What a WONDERFUL analogy you've made. I've never thought of it, but it's perfect for what happens to many after taking that first, sometimes fatal, step to drink. Thank you. It's something I can SO identify with, and I hope it helps others understand the danger. And you know, even posted signs warning of the danger don't deter some people from the waterfalls. Makes us think about a lot of our choices, doesn't it? And all the warnings we know and disregard. One second, one really bad decision.
So glad to see you here. Keep posting, love.

                :l Spud

Taking the option to pick up that first drink completely off of the table makes this journey so much easier!

Remember that & you will do well

I love the idea of taking that choice right off the table. Then there is no choice to make. I just don't drink. It's not an option.

                  Thanks, Lav.

                    WE/I HAVE A CHOICE

Bravo Spuds! And I feel the same way.

It's been over 20 years since I quit smoking cold turkey. No patches or gum; I don't even know if they existed at the time but I certainly wouldn't have been able to afford them anyway. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. It took almost 2 months before I could go an hour without thinking about smoking. So many times I came close to smoking, but kept thinking to myself that this pain was all part of the process and that if I smoked I was only going to have to go through the pain again. If I didn't smoke, I was only going to have to go through the pain one time. So I didn't smoke.

After I was officially a non-smoker and through the cravings I thought that I would never ever smoke a cigarette again because I knew how easy it would be for me to start again and I knew that I never wanted to go through quitting again. So I've never tried it since and never will. And I feel and think the same thing about alcohol. I know how easy it would be for me to become addicted again and I don't want to go through all of that. So I just don't.

                      WE/I HAVE A CHOICE

                      We Have A Choice Everyday
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.” Charles R. Swindoll (American Writer and Clergyman, b.1934)
