Army Thread Thursday 15th December
Good morning Expattie and all to come
Phew!!! Last working day of the week for us Saffas. Tomorrow is the Day of Reconciliation. It used to be called "Geloftedag" (Day of the Vow / Day of the Covenant), commemorating the slaughter of a Zulu Army by the Boer Trekkers in what was to become the Kwa-Zulu Natal province. The Boers made a Covenant with God that if they won the battle at Blood River (apparently the water in the stream close to the laager of wagons the Boers had encamped in, had turned red from all the spilt blood from Zulu warriors), they would build a monument in his honour, which was subsequently done.
In the democratic South Africa, this day was turned on its head, and has instead become a symbol of greater unity.
Your little history lesson having been dispensed with, I wish you a wonderful dayI'll do whatever it takes

Oh... and did I mention that we'll having a mini-break this weekend? The cubs are very excited. My brother and his family have rented a house in a seaside town called Witsand and have invited us to join them for the weekend. I would have preferred not to go (my egotistical pride being hurt), but what the hell. I HATE having the feeling that I'm getting a free ride at someone else's expense.
Especially the eldest cub would love to go fishing on brother's boat. And as much as he complains about the three younger cousins stalking him, he loves the fact that they hang onto his every word.I'll do whatever it takes

Where is everybody? Having first cup of coffee and trying to build up the courage to take pug dog out for his walk. Cold and windy out there.
I have a long work day-and we have our Christmas lunch today. It'll just be a buffet in the centre this year. Budget cuts? Anyway, I'll probably just grab a bite to eat and chat for a few minutes. No worries, mate!:HI have classes before the lunch and right after- so drink is not an option (or temptation or anything).
What's everybody else up to today? (listens to echo).

OK-off to face the cold. Pug dog is staring at me.
