                Army Thread 16th December

I was feeling inspired by the Piglet thread, and decided to view our little trip through someone else's eyes, and share a bit of what life in Saffaland and the T household is like.

So, as promised, here are some piccies. I hope the sizes are OK - the connection is very slow and the editing in PB has taken a while. I've escaped to our bedroom (but as you'll shortly see, that is a good place to be. I even have some choccies to snack on as I type, and a glass of ice cold lemonade).

The first one is of the cats, totally ignoring the activity around them when we got up this morning:

For a change, the cubs were eager to help me. Here we've started packing the car

Note the watermelon: they are synonymous with summer and are sliced into wedges and eaten outside, with juice dripping all over. In my younger days, we used to have watermelon fights.

Finally!!! Everything loaded. My family surprised me: we could fit everything in, and I was still able to see a small slice of the road in my rearview mirror.

Poor Jasmine knew that something was up. By the time we were ready to say goodbye, she was cowering underneath the coffee table, looking sad and depressed. I wish we could've brought her with, but the property isn't fenced.

Our first stop was the filling station to get some diesel.

                                Factoids:

                                - diesel currently costs around ZAR11.15 a litre (just over a Euro), depending on where you buy - only the wholesale price is regulated by government. All grades of petrol have fixed prices in South Africa - i.e. the retail price is fixed.
                                - there are no self-service filling stations in SA. In fact, it would be illegal. The petroleum industry provides in the region of 70 000 jobs for petrol attendants.

Our attendant also washed the windows for us and checked the oil and water.
