Health problems caused by alcohol
well, I guess I'll jump in here. Pain and swelling under my right ribcage (assuming swollen organs?) doctors have been pretty useless and said it would just go away. well, it does go away when I don't drink too much so I guess this is an easy one to remedy. just hard to stay that way for some of us dang it. I need to get a handle on this before I cause permanent damage although I probably already have.nosce te ipsum

My liver...
Back in 2004 after a three month bender my eyes turned yellow....... and I had a bleeding nose from hypertension. (and I am not overweight by any means!) This was all from alcohol. My liver was at the point where it was either dry out or die...
So, I stopped drinking for two months, my eyes cleared right up. My blood pressure went back to normal, and luckily I got pregnant and remained sober for another 10 months.
Now, I get pains in my kidneys when I am drinking too often. One would think that I would 'get a clue' and stop the madness!!!
Are you suffering from anything in particular?? The body is amazing at rebuilding itself when given the chance.

I don't have any particular pain, though I do have high blood pressure which is hereditary. I think some physical scare would definitely motivate me - I have a medical on monday and am worried about the results is all...
I think the right side under the rib-cage is the liver, though there are no nerves in it I believe so not sure what it could be in both your cases...

Health problems caused by alcohol
I had the exact same pain right before my physical in October and then "miraculously" it went away. I told my doctor about it (but not that I drank a lot) and he pushed and prodded and took blood tests and all came back normal. Could be psychological some of it??? I hope that is the case at least for all of us.........I'm really easy to get along with once people learn to worship me

Sorry to join this thread a bit late, I am new on here, joined last week. I was interesed in the pain under the right rib cage. Do you mean pain actually under the ribs, as in swelling pushing against the inside of your ribcage.
Or, pain below were the ribs finish and the right side of your stomach begins? Also if you push and prod the offending area does the pain get worse?

Liver pain
Yes pain under right rib cage is Liver, ask GP for Liver Function Test (simple blood test), having said that although I was getting pain there and in my kidneys the tests came back 'normal', still worrying though. My yellow eyes are a dead giveaway at work in the mornings and have tried all sorts of things to hide that, at least no-one sees your liver and kidneys. However on second day AF - hurrah, unheard for Friday/Sat night especially for oh it must be years. Don't really know what has made me want to stop (again) this time but I do seem to keep falling over recent years and seem to damage myself each time ie, broken ribs etc. Could be to do with my age I suppose (44) but is this happening to anyone else?:new:Rather die standing, than live on my knees, begging Please..... No More.......

Yeah, over the past year after Binging I had pains under my rib cage and in my stomach on the right side. Also my kidneys were sore off and on after drinking too much. Around the summer when I cut way back and was AF all those pains went away. In December they came back. I guess it's our bodies saying no more poison. I've had the tests run and I did tell my GP about my binging. I was normal except for being anemic.
