Army thread - Tuesday, 27th December

Reccie, you've impressed me once again. :goodjob:

Jackie - it's normal to have a small weight gain when you go off a limited diet and start eating things you're not used to for so many months. And especially if you stop right before a holiday like Christmas. I don't know about you but I eat literally twice as much at Christmas dinner as what I eat for dinner on an every day basis. The reason is that every day I get the dinner plates ready with whatever food I've cooked, along with side salad and such and I eat what's on my plate and sometimes not all of it. Christmas dinner, or any time we have company and I've got a big table full of platters of food, I always eat more because it's right there in front of me and I keep eating til I'm more than stuffed. A right piglet I am. And I expect that goes for most people. Then we have bowls of mixed nuts and chocolates and Christmas cookies and things that we don't usually have in the house unless we're having people over for dinner and they're hard to resist. Actually I didn't eat any choklit and only a couple of nuts but I did myself proud on the roast pork, turkey and stuffing. Mind you, younger son's girlfriend ate as much stuffing as Mr. Stirly and I and younger son combined. And she's slim as can be with a tummy that's flat as a cutting board. Whenever they go on holidays somewhere they make sure they book a package deal where the meals are included with the hotel room. Otherwise, as younger son has mentioned a few times, the food bills would be more than the hotel accommodation. Bless her, gorgeous girl that she is, she does love her food.

    :wavin: Tipster and Pingu.

Hello Army! I hope I haven't missed everyone. I meant to try to check in earlier (and show off my new hat) but it's been a horrid day at work. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

            Nighters Tips, :l

            Evening Stirls,

It's not just the chokllit to blame. I have picked up a little bit of this and a little bit of that as I was putting them on the table. And then there was all the bowl licking when I was making 87 various dishes. And me roast potatoes were to die for.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Had a special fondness for choklit filled croissants warmed in the toaster at work. One of my co-workers heard of my choccie habit and started leaving me Toblerone choccie bars a few times a week. Of course I shared them with the other peeps in the office. One day, another of my co-workers left this pin on my desk.

That was about 20 years ago and I still have it. It's pinned on my "Heather Doll". She looks like this...

ExPatty, the girls are a delight. As I've said before, they are best friends so there is no jealousy or rivalry between them, as we experienced in the past with a couple of girlfriends. And since they are so close, it means that our sons spend more time together than they might have if the girfriends weren't best friends.

Jackie, I do the same thing, especially with the stuffing. By the time I sit down to eat, I've already had a serving because I have to make sure it's done. Yeah, right. Same with the roast pork, while slicing it. Any little bits that fell off got stuffed in my gob toot sweet. What's your secret for the roast potatoes? I peel mine and cut them into pieces and then lightly deep fry them in corn oil. Then toss them into the roast pan with a light dusting of salt. They don't ever go soggy that way, always stay crispy on the outside and mooshy on the inside. Oh dear, food porn again....

                    Roasties:

Peel and parboil for 5 mins in lightly salted water while a roasting tin with a good sploosh of vegetable oil gets very hot in the oven.

Drain then put them, then back into the pan and give them a bit of a shake.

Chuck the potatoes in the roasting tin, spoon over oil. Bung back in hot oven for about 30/40 mins and voila

I've finally got my son in bed. He is signed up for holiday camp on Wednesday and Thursday (he needs to play with other kids and I'm running out of ideas to entertain him-plus the weather has turned shite) but we'll have all day Friday and the weekend together.
