NO Beags...that is fabulous...I've just lost a huge nostalgic post....but my grandad used to go over the mountains and break brumbies...the gentle way....that's how he supplemented the farm's income and kept 6 kids up.....while Garnie grew veg and kept at least 20 chickens...and the calves were always down in the bottom paddock...a milker called Daisy (of course) .....great memories...

Morning Garnie's, doodyheads and Innashnal guests,
I have gotten great joy from reading your chat last night Bridge and Beags. Thanks for sharing some personal history and memories. I've never heard 'Garnie' before, but i love it. I throb horses and horse riding. My uncle trains a few in the bush for country races, though he drills bores for a living, the horses are his passion and a 'full time job'. I don't think he makes much money from it, just the love. We should all go riding one day!
Cool change coming through here, and orf to the coalface soon. I gotta move to the beach this year.
A safe, sober, happy, healthy day to all.

is it PC to say that I am scared of horses?! I can count the number of times that I have been on one on the fingers of half a hand. And I fell/got thrown off every single time
I'm scared of cows too :H:H
Sunny - when is this baby due?????Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn

Morning assorted underpants,
Lovely posts which now make me want to
• eat polenta
• smell a horse, including its poo.
After three heatwave days, finally a gentle thunderstorm and a very welcome drop in temps will see me get amongst it. *** vroom ***
Hey - did you guys read that Zeppy in NZ is also four months preggers? Two MWO babies due. How good is that?

I will gladly teach you everything that I know , which is not half as much as I want....
All those bored by horse-talk, look away now....
I have been in love with horses since a little kiddy (haven't most little girls!!)
When my folks split up (I was aged 9), my mother took a job at a riding school. She had a natural flair for horses ( like ball-room dancing, she was a champion), & every spare moment we had as kids was spent at this riding school.
I remember being bathed in a cement trough as I was too small to shower with the big girls.
I remember getting up at sparrow's to go catch my nominated pony, & groom the living daylights outta him/her.
I remember being able to catch some ponies that other people couldn't.
I remember riding so hard in the heat I collapsed from heat exhaustion.
I remember getting bucked off onto a fence where I didn't feel my toes for a little bit.
I remember a horse rearing above me, & he landed within inches of my head. He twisted in mid-air to avoid me.
I remember being picked up by my forearm when I was 10, as a horse bit me, so I swung up my right arm & punched the fucker square on the snout.
When my mother could no longer afford riding lessons, I would go to my Uncle's house in Bridgetown where he'd broken in his own horses, which my cousin & I would ride bareback, double bareback, & double facing-backwards bareback. We swam horse in the Blackwood River.
Then I would hire horses to ride up in Perth, cos there was no other way.
At Uni, our Equine registrar's brother was a racehorse trainer, so I volunteered to exercise his horses with him & got an exhilaration fix from beach gallops at 4.30 am. Mornings of sheer adrenalin, developing great core strength & good biceps.
I got my track jockey's license whilst i did my vet degree.
Then, getting married & moving to farm, I got my first horse!
I haven't looked back since.
They are a creature of true majesty & honour.
To ride them is to trust them. For them, to trust YOU is the ultimate honour.
Sorry 'bout the outburst.Okay, WHO put a stop payment on my reality check?
Winning since October 24th, 2013

Morning all.
Seriously bad storm here last night. Hope Beags doesn't get it too bad. Very little sleep here for animals and humans alike.
I don't throb horses. Don't admit that much because it offends some lovers of horses and there are plenty around here. But where I am from horses don't live in fields, just in the middle of housing estates. Might have had a bad encounter as a child I guess.

I too am anxious to avoid cows. I had an unhappy experience as a child. My grandfather raised longhorn cattle in Cuba. One mooed at me, that did it, traumatized for life. Clearly I was a very sensitive child.
Love horses. Do you think we could all meet at the equator and swap weather. It's really really cold here. Between us both we should be able to manage balmy.
Good news about Zeppy!!! What thread is she posting on? I would love to catch up with her and her dishies.Wally22:confusedmonkey::confusedmonkey::confusedmo nkey:
