      Bridge, you're turning into a regular Aussie Martha Stewart (Gawd help ya!). I'm still tender about posting on other regular sites, but yall's funny banter is just plum sweet. Don't come often, but I read all your stuff regularly, and ya'll are just so fun, but caring, and I've learned SO much more than I ever knew about Australia and New Zealand than any book can tell you. This may be only funny to me, but when my oldest granddaughter was a baby, I bought her a book on reptiles. She loved playing with our gentle ones in the yard, have many pictures to document. She's 21 now, and when she and her babies were here for our family Christmas, she reminded me of the one whose name she love, the Boomslang. Have no more info than that little book I gave, but she remembers everything about us learning about the area.
      And Bridge, again, I'm going to adopt your method later this year. Have you tried sweet 'taters? Some people call them yams, but yams are very different. Sweet 'taters make luscious baked fries and are very nutritious. We feast on tomatoes, onions, peppers, okra, beans, and corn in the growing months. And always stone-ground cornmeal.
      I enjoy all of you.
      And yeah, Techie, I saw a pic you were connected with! :H

        No you wouldn't. I've just read the menu which included:
        • Chimichanga
          • $10.95
        • shredded beef or chicken served with gobs of cheese. rolled up in a tortilla and deep-fried, served with jalapeno rice & refried beans and guacamole & soup cream
        GACK!!!

        I want to go to that other place where the big fat red cray/lobster thing was, if you wouldn't mind.....

          Hiya Rubes, you must have missed my post asking if you'd be kind enough to share some pics of the fabulous southern cooking you serve up to Hubs every day. As a lot of us here are serious eaters, we'd love to see pics of some of the things you describe.

              Sweets, I'll send you as many and as often as time allow. Himself went to bed without food from me tonight because he was ill-mannered, but I think he'll live. Otherwise, I'll be a wealthy widow, with lots of cats to endow.

                I did the potato in straw and soil a few years ago and it worked quite well. When I got new tyres for my car last year I kept the old tyres so am using them now.
                Zenny, I'm on a quarter acre block, but have access to the reserve behind me which is about 500 acres. I can use the reserve immediately next to my place for agricultural purposes if I want to.

                  I'm on 14 acres but don't have the water to support growing stuff that isn't 'contained' somehow. One bucket of water in a contained bed goes a long way.

                  I loved doing the spuds in straw/soil and bandicooting just enough little baby spuds for that night's din-dins.

                  Have just had a pretty neat lunch. Finally found a recipe for flatbread that works just fine. Curried prawns - very tedious roasting/grinding/frying of spices etc. but for some reason I crave curries in summer. Only ate one of the breads, the other will do, dragged through some hommus, for tea .

                    Tawny PULLEEZE post the link or recipe for the flatbread. I absolutely adore naan bread and that looks pretty darn close.
                    Pretty please:h

                      Wally - ok - here it is. I actually don't know the diff between naan and roti but this seems to do the job. I think you guys use metric?::

                      270g (2 cups) plain flour
                      2 tabs natural yoghurt
                      3/4 teasp baking powder
                      pinch of dry yeast
                      40g butter, melted

                      Combine all ingredients, except butter, with 150ml water and pinch of salt. /turn onto lightly floured surface and knead for 2 mins or until smooth. Cover, set aside until doubled in size.

                      Knead in butter. Set aside for further 30 mins. Divide dough into 4 then roll into 22cm rounds. Cook over medium heat for 30-secs or until browned.

                      ~~~~~
                      That's the official recipe - I found they needed 1 minute on each side. They stay nice and pliable, good for scooping up the yummy bits.
                        Starting with some fresh flowers and veggies….
                        Then a piece ‘o tuna
                        And just flowing on…..
                        To pork and 3 types of crackling…
                            Tawn,
                            that naan recipe will go in the next Undies recipe book.
                            My naan recipe is just about the same.
                            Tawn, do you have the original Charmaine Solomon Asian cookbook? She has nheaps of curry recipes (as in mix your own spices) in it.
                              It's been a bible for about the last 30? years ... It's in a shocking state with colour samples on just about every page. The dust cover's long gone. Even it's poor little spine is broken but I still throb it to bits.
