3 dogs, 2 cats, and a jumpin' goat, Tony. Planning on chickens and ducks this spring, maybe rabbits. Rabbits are actually a great, simple , sustanable food source, and taste good, I just don't have the stomach for slaughtering them. I read in one of my small farm books, we have to get our minds to accept that animals live and die. If they die humanely, it just speeds up the process, but also if they're not wasted, then both their bodies (and someday, hopefully, ours) return to the earth. Since we're NOT vegetarians,the meat is healthy for humans, and their poop is wonderful in a garden. Much more so than red meat, and much cheaper to produce. Just DO find it hard to eat the Easter Bunny (watch out, Sun). I recently read about a group of people who will only eat tomatoes, Tomatarians. Opens up a whole bunch of thoughts about how you can become immersed in an idea. But (here's a deep, dark, secret) I've always had the idea if there was a cataclysmic event we survived, I have enough old knowledge of how to do things, we wouldn't suffer as much. Sure would miss my I-phone, though. Crazy, I know. But did you know you can make butter with just whole milk and a jar? Amazing the information you have time to read when you're not passed out!! :H

I'll post a complete description later, G, and also how to make a lot of milk related groceries. I try to make my own bread, rarely eat fast foods (had my first Big Mac in a decade last week) shop locally for anything I can find. Some of them charge a bit more than grocery store, but I see where they're coming from. I can spin, weave, knit, crochet, sew, and grow! Can as much as I can, but I've been resorting to the freezer a lot. Just read last week that roadkill pickups have been deemed legal. Haven't been there, yet! Love my fresh veggies, and animals contribute to that. You can live off just a few acres, if you work at it. Grow my own herbs, know the wild plants that are good for you, but I've been so lazy for a long while I've let it slide. Have a spinning wheel, a yarn weasel, have neighbors who harvest everything from eggs to honey. Country life is all I love. We've gone into the cabin, cold, with no groceries, and I've found the stuff to make a great hot meal. Oh, and there's a grist mill just a few miles from the cabin, so corn meal is often on the menu, along with grits! Not bragging, just saying. So many arts are lost in just the last 50 years. So when we get the commune going, I'll be ready to share with everyone. Now, if someone would just buy me an alpaca!! :H

I am ROTFLMBO!!!! I came home from Tick Hollow today to find a parcel from Mish on my porch...it contained, among other things, a stuffed Koala bear who spins around while laughing hysterically! There is a motion activated sensor on it's tummy...well, the cats went to check it out and immediately set it off! I haven't seen anything this entertaining in ages...they both freaked out and ran off...then, worked up enough courage to go give it a sniff again, and as soon as they came 'round the front- off it went again, and so did they! :H:H:H

As soon as the Vegemite warms up, I will do a side by side comparison tasting featuring it against U.K. Marmite...

The Quokka are so cute! Mish, I noticed that their mums carry them in a pouch...now I'm worried that the layettes I knitted from all my hairs will make the poor mums itch! :H

Fen..It is so good to see you laugh!! I would love to see a picture of that too. Poor cats.

I just wanted to say Hi to all my friends. I have to go to a meeting tonight at Jeremy's school to learn about financial aid for college.....why, oh why, didn't I put any money away for college? Makes me want to put something away each week for Addy.....I can't imagine what it will cost when she goes to school. Of course, she's so smart like her mother, she'll probably have plenty of scholarships!!
