Bird, just checked your competition and you've got to get out the vote! How 'bout getting your kids (who'll benefit if you win) to get all their FB friends involved to vote. Kids have massive power now, and influence so much. Also, spend some time messaging all your friends who haven't voted on there, and e-mailing others. Zen's idea of letting her put up a post is very good too, for those who don't read our thread. I know I only read ours and when someone needs a boost or reaches a milestone on General. It could be posted on Newbies too, since your AL battle while being in so many AL settings performing could help others. Just a few ideas. Yes, you and Fen hike yourself to pieces, and Mrs Fen and I will shop and have you a meal when you crawl back in! :H
Oh, and it's bound to be cooler in the spring than the time you took me on the short path in the heat at Tallulah Gorge that left me paralyzed!! :H

What else can we do, Bird Lady?? Oh, and JC just sent me a pic from the chicken farm were he works of a chick with 4 legs. Instead of 'discarding' it as is normal, he brought it home and they're caring for it. Working on posting the pic for you, might freak everyone else out. But hey, it's alive and healthy, so it's a good thing.

So quiet today. I've blown out tons of spiderwebs that are invisible on these high ceilings, dust bunnies, grit, and dog hair from under big furniture. As usual, now I'm fixating on the stuff that collects between the boards on this 32 year old wood floor. I tend to do that, get stuck on the small stuff, and this whole house is crammed with small stuff. SOOOooo, back to the general cleaning, getting rid of the clutter, trying to finish downstairs as much as possible today so can actually work upstairs tomorrow. Careful what you wish for kids. This huge house is all consuming, not to mention our business, food and laundry, dogs, outdoors, and things I actually enjoy. Haven't hit on the right level yet, since I love my old collections.

Not sure if Mrs. Fen will accompany me...and she doesn't cook! :H Well, she does a few things very well. Lasagna, rice krispie treats, cookie bars and ummmm...I forget the other dish.

My knee is quite a bit better, but not great. Still, Mrs. Fen and I hiked on Saturday (I overdid, natch), and I went back to the rock outcropping I fell on behind the cabin to reclaim the branch that snapped and caused me to fall. I plan on burning it in the wood stove! :H

I am home from the gym and I bought a slingshot on the way home. ....glad your knee is doing better Fenn, you will need it for our hike.....my votes have doubled since I left and Zen put up the posts. I hope my kids have put it on their fb, they have many more friends than I do...I have not taken my antabuse cuz of dentist Thursday and am freaking a bit...will go practice with my slingshot..

Fen, my babies won't chase you! I'm waiting to hear from the breeder I like this week, have broken the news to Hubs and he didn't have a conniption (he knows it wouldn't matter, I'd still do it!) so hoping to soon have a new pup. I'm expecting to pay a lot more than youse all would think is proper, have in the past, but at this stage in my wellness, and staying away from backyard breeders, I'll do it. One of my small indulgences, since I love and understand the breed. I want to get one from someone who is also devoted to them, not just in it for the money. In the long run, any breeder who does it right puts far more money in their pups than they recoup. TMB loves women, but she takes a lot of care now with her eyes. I'm still feeding her antibiotics, but also have hope she can be helped with minor surgery now. I'll certainly do it. Tell Mrs to come on, I'll keep her entertained though I used to love the outdoor activities but now I'm losing my grip on them a bit. Will keep fighting that, but know I can't keep up with ya'll. I trip on my toes too often to trust meself on rugged trails. Hubs (as I've said) points out the painted lines on the pavement. A 1/4 inch of a difference can throw me on my face, and I HATE it!! My gardens are my forte now, and finding friends who will help me fulfill my dreams of landscaping. Plus, Hubs is a harsh watchdog when it comes to my physical activities, as are my children, and I don't want to accrue injuries that will set them back looking after me.
Bird, we're all pushing as hard as we can, sweetie. And we have 3 more weeks to do it! Crossing all my digits!

It is, Fen. Most of the time in huge chicken houses defectives are discarded (please don't ask me to explain, it's awful) but it is being well cared for. Usually they have other health issues, but hope it makes it. Can't afford a big medical bill for a 4-legged chicken! Right now, it's fed well, warm, and comfortable. I've talked to lots of chicken house owners, and it's terrible to hear since people become immune to them in their work. Like company slaughter houses, hog raisers, it DOES reinforce the vegetarian view. I've only known the home raised meat products, and they are treated more humanely. After all, all creatures die, and unless we have homes for domesticated animals when they age, we have to reach some balance. I still refuse to eat lamb, veal, piglets, any baby animals so I know it's sort of a contradiction. But I come from home farms.
Read today about an instructor at a cattle slaughter house who was attacked and seriously injured by a steer he was about to demonstrate on. Hard to reconcile, as I've said. I'll just look for more home grown. And organic. I have such a soft heart I can't do it.
Also, properly trained and responsible deer hunters are needed. Government intervention has caused them to be a source of danger to drivers and others. We just need more control of those who hunt, and what they do after they've taken their shot. Hunters For The Hungry is a great program, providing free venison to hungry people, and my family uses it.
