Health news for those of us taking up tea instead of drinking...

    Hi...
Just wanted to add a blip about the "Teavana" website and tea. If you live in a major city, check on the website and see if you have a store close by. They are usually found in large malls, but not all major cities have them. But IF you can ever drive to one, it is well worth the experience. The one here in my city has about 10 different teas brewed each day that you can sample, and there are people in the store whose job is to be your personal "tea coach" and it is SO much fun. They answer all your questions about the difference between white teas, green teas, red teas, black teas, roobios, etc. ALL of their tea is loose leaf and they store it in big tins. They will let you smell any tea you want to get a feel for what it will taste like. It is so fragrant that many of them almost smell like potpourri for the palette. Like Becca said.... there is simply NO comparison between this stuff and grocery store stuff. I have got a secret little side addiction to it and look forward to the day that is surpasses the wine craving!

Although the teas are expensive, each teaspoon of loose leaf tea can sometimes be steeped up to two three more times. So whenever I want a cup of tea, I use about one teaspoon and get 3 cups of tea out of it before you even begin to notice a decrease in strength. White teas actually have far more antioxidants than green teas (and are a bit more expensive!). Also, strangely, the white teas are the mildest in flavor, so for those of you having a hard time tolerating the green tea, consider ordering some white tea from Teavana as every one I have tried never has a bitter flavor at all!

They also sell cast iron teapots from china which have the little strainer in the teapot to put your leaves in and it keeps it hot for up to an hour and half, which I love. They are very expensive, but I got my husband to get me one for a fraction of the price when he went to China in November. Makes the experience so much fun. You can get these off of Ebay for much less if you want one as well...

    Okay, somebody stop me!

Nobody stopped me, so I will tell you my favorites in case anybody is considering an order...

The three flavors I currently have are: (most are a mix between two flavors, which they recommend)

      1. Roobios Rose Garden and Lemon Green (50/50 mix of the two)
      2. Raspberry Sangria and Roobios Lemon Twist (50/50 mix)
      3. Jasmine Dragon Pearls and Roobios Tropica (50/50 mix)

I chose these based on samples they had brewed on the days I went to the store, and fell in love with these. My favorite though is the first one.... Roobios Rose Garden and Lemon Green. This IS green tea and you would never know. It tastes like HEAVEN.

I really like the Matevana that Becca suggested too... I'm all out of that one.

      Stopping now; I promise.

Just, Thanks so much for this thread, I am loving it!!!

Weemelon, heavens aren't we always delighted with your enchanting responses - drinking tea by the elephant bucket load!

And ooh the thing about milk - I had heard that but thanks for posting the article for clarification. I wil have to space out my skim milk with my teas so as not to cause interference.

One tea that has always helped me in the idst of stress - even tears- is Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer- has a picture of a lady riding a dragon on the box - I almost forgot how much it has helped in the past. Today I shall stock up on teas and buy some more tension tamer.
        Thanks all!

Pansy and Victoria turned me on to Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime EXTRA that has valerian root in it. Very calming. You can buy it online if you can't find.

I know Bec and Allie, teabags are trashy but these rock.
Sunny days, sweeping the, clouds away. On my way, to where the air is sweeeet!!! Can you tell me how to get, how to get to......LOL

Here's another article I just found on Web MD. I need to get back into my tea drinking. I"ve gotten really lazy the past few days.

              Here it is:

I've been drinking the red bush tea for a month- it is recommended for a "children's tea" and it's really excellent.

It has no caffeine but is a real pick-me-up at work - for some unknown reason

All in the mind I guess - but it tastes good.

                Cheers

I'll have to look for that type of tea. Don't think I've ever tried it.

Cashregister, that's interesting on the bush tea...never heard of it. I like a a Japanese green tea called Gen Mai Cha (or something like that) and it's flavored with toasted rice and made by Yamamotoyama...it's nutty and warm tasting. also I just LOVE this white tea from China that has lemon grass in it...but it's at work and I don't recall the brand. From what I've read/heard all kinds of tea are good for us. good call JustH !!

I've been on a blueberry kick for a while!
I found a Celestial Seasonings Tea in "True Blueberry"...
                      It is really good!
I put the bag(sorry...yes I said bag) in a cup of black tea and heat it in the microwave....then I add one pack of Stevia Plus sweetner.....

Its caffeine free and sugar free!
I also have about a cup of frozen blueberries a day in Multigrain Cheerios or Kashi oatmeal.
Blueberries are one of the "Super Foods" mentioned by Steven Pratt, M.D. in his book by that name.
Some of the other foods are salmon and spinach.

                      :h Nancy
You can find Dole frozen bluberries at Sam's Club for about $8 a bag...

I found a new tea this week and it is yummy. Lipton's Orange chocolate black tea, it tastes just like the old orange Aero bars.
