    Just Like a Swimming Pool.

    advice for a newbe

Thank you Louise for your analogy and support. It has given me the courage to order the program and talk to my doctor. I got the book yesterday read every word...cried...felt hope...
Saw my doctor today, got topomax, and ordered the supplements and CDs.
Does anyone have advice on how to moderate myself until the supplements and CDs get here? Should I start on the topomax today or wait for my package?
The weekend is here and I'm a lota scared.
    Thanks Much!!
    Zoey

        Zoey,

I'm back to day 1 AF because of a bad hangover from last night. I'm so ashamed of myself. I know better. I cried when I first read the book, too. I'm rereading it now. The topa helped me but it's up to you. I think I need to abstain, not mod, for a while. I need to heal my body. I don't feel well anymore. The CDs are wonderful and I strongly recommend them. Haven't talked with my dr yet. Was he/she receptable to this concept?

        Take care :l

After reading that opening post I decided to take a leap into the pool and start getting control over my life, thank you for a very inspirational reading. I travel a lot so finding this web site is a blessing and something that I can review frequently. Thanks

Thank you akgirl for bumping this. I can identify with this perfectly. Have been sitting on the side of the pool for the past two weeks, but soon I will be putting my feet in.

The pool is great but I think we should remember to perfect the tumble-turn when you get to the wall and then you're heading for the shallow end where it gets easier the further you go, rather than hitting the wall... Good luck everyone.

I don't have any interest in getting close to the pool right now or anywhere except to make it through the day and do what I have to do. You have written this beautifully and I hope to one day get my hope back. I know it's ahead and you give us a great example of what to strive for. Thank you for sharing your gift and for being here.

That was fantastic. I'm a newbe but your swimming pool analog have given me hope that I will suceed... Time, patience, support and the desire to stop drinking are my guiding lights. Thank you.. Time to get into the shallow end. I feel like today is going to be a good day.
This is a great forum. This is only my second time here but it has already given strength.. Keep writing you have a gift

Thank you for this Louise - I am feeling dark and depressed and an utter failure today, but reading your swimming pool analogy makes me realise that I am one of the learners sitting on the edge of the pool wishing that I could be diving in and swimming in the deep end. I'm determined to stay and paddle around - hopefully with the help of the more experienced swimmers I will one day make it to the other side of the pool!:thanks:

What a great analogy, the Swimming Pool. This is my first reply, having only just joined up tonight. I am determined to splash around in the shallow end until I can start swimming up to the deep end. I may need a new pair of floaties though as my ones got stolen by AL and CIG. I have decided they can keep the floaties, I'm tired of trying to argue with them. I'll get my own and I hope this site will help show me where to buy them from when the going gets tough.
Thanks and hi to those in the pool with me. It's nice to meet you.:new:

                              Louise,

I've tried getting into the pool many times, I did jump in many times too, but I still haven't learnt swimming. It was about ten years ago, I think, somtime in early 1999, that I first entered a full-time rehab centre, I was supposed to stay for six months but I was out in less than three months and headed straight for the bar and got drunk. And that's ho:help!:help!w it's been all these years. I tried but I haven't yet succeeded. Hope I succeed this time
