In France it's two weeks for Toussaint-around Halloween, two weeks Christmas, two weeks winter break (so all the Frenchies can go ski), two weeks spring break for Easter and then two months July and August.

Your children are very lucky to have a mother who tries so hard to keep them occupied during the holidays, expatty. How on earth do you find the time?

Great news about the son and heir, Jackie...you and Mr JC must be so pleased!

You'll just have to arrive late and leave early as you need an early night just in case it gets worse. That would work as well....

What Tipster said. They're not alkies. I watch Mr. Stirly drink his single glass of red wine every day and sometimes he drinks half of it with his meal and leaves the other half for later. Years and years ago when I drank wine with our mid-afternoon meal, I'd have a glass while getting the food heated up (always cooked the night before) then another glass with my meal and a third while getting the kitchen tidied up. Then later in the evening I would start cooking for the next day and would start with the hard stuff. Cheap vodka, cheap whiskey, brandy, ouzo, whatever I happened to buy. Cooked half drunk most of the time and then toddled off to bed. But, as Tipster said, it can be done. Tough, but doable. Best of luck to you at the party with whatever excuse you decide on. You'll feel so proud of yourself tomorrow.

If someone asks I would say I've got a horrid case of the clap. Most likely the conversation would go no further. I would hope. (Course then there are the really nosey parkers who would ask where you got it... For that you should have a photo album handy.)
