    Army Thread 22nd February

D'ya'know, since being 'away' I've changed my mind on what constitutes 'problem/alcoholic drinking'. Cos my drinking was so MAD at the bad times, I considered the loads of people I know that would open a bottle of wine and drink it lots of nights a week as normal That is sooooo not normal - just friggin relatively normal to me in my hay day - that IS problem drinking --- and soo many people do it!
I agree Molly - so many people do do it and don't realize it's a problem. My younger sister drinks at least a litre of wine every single day. Maybe more if she starts mid-afternoon. Her husband starts cracking open the cans of light beer as early as 10 a.m. in the summer. I was with them on their boat once for the weekend and he downed a 24-pack each day. They don't see it as a problem. I consider both of them alkies. Try and convince them that they have a problem tho' and they'll just deny it because so many people around them drink similar amounts. To them it's normal because others do it too. That's what Jackie's project would be up against and that's why it's so necessary but also difficult to get the people to realize they have a problem. Mind you, if only a few people have their eyes opened to the possibility that either they or someone close to them has a problem with either AL or drugs and seeks help, then the project will be successful IMHO.

      Exactly.
I used to jealous of 'normal' people who could have just one bottle of wine a night.

Even if you're just having a drink per night and you're gagging for it all day .That's a problem.

I'm thinking it goes far deeper than all these programmes about how disgraceful binge drinking is. The vast majority will go home feel shite the next day but after a bacon sandwich will feel as right as rain. It's those that have to use the hair of the dog that need to be targeted.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

          yooooooooo hooooooo Stirls,

I've got to bugger off. But you've given me some ideas. I'll have a word with the big boss, I'm thinking they have speakers at these WI meetings so why not an alcohol worker.

Stick the kettle on about 6ish.

Hi Gang - great posts today :goodjob:
I am ready to admit I am a problem drinker - get bored very easily - and the AL SEEMS to give me a spurt when I get home . I have cut down hugely since going to see Damien (Spawn of the devil) Trainer .
Secret is to keep busy from 5 - 7 pm

                    Stirly
We go to Keffalonia in Greece for holiday in June and September .... Assos is a tiny fishing village and we known there now.
Mr Satz doesn't like flying and Assos is the only place he will overcome the fear & fly to.

No flights from Ireland for many years so we fly to Zykanthos & ferry over in 1.5 hours.
Last Sept was a disaster - they took the ferry off without warning as yer man had no licence all these years & we had to go back to mainland, stay overnight & get ferry from there. Nightmare.
Reminds me better check if it's back up & running . We'd have to go via UK if not - mucho hassle. :upset:
