    Army Thread Monday 27th February

June 9th. Already got me dress and shoes. Mind you the shoes have a 4" heel so I've got to do a lot of practice walking.

If I suddenly disappear I've got to nip up to friggintesco.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

How wonderful that you can be there. It will be both a sad and wonderful day

Hope Mr Stirly recovering nicely, I did read he was doing well :lYes, Panno, he is doing well and the best news is that he won't need any kind of therapy, not radiation, not chemo, nothing. Just regular blood checks and checkups. We are very grateful, indeed.

It was a holiday here and we had company for lunch/dinner. The tradition states that you eat only foods that have no animal content - seafood is allowed but no meat or dairy. So I made a lot of different kinds of veggie and seafood dishes - octopus with oregano and garlic, fried shrimps, eggplant salad, fish roe salad, potato/tuna salad, a mixed greens salad, mussel pilaf, stuffed grapevine leaves and tomato patties accompanied by olives, pickled veggies and unleavened bread. Everyone raved about the food and I could tell they meant it because they all went back for second and third servings. Mind you it took me hours both yesterday and today to get it all ready. Luckily there are enough leftovers for Mr. Stirly and I for lunch tomorrow.

Jackie - I am so pleased that you will be attending your best friend's daughter's wedding. I would cry all the way through it, too. In fact I'm wondering already how I'm going to get through older son's wedding in October. There'll be photographers taking pictures and videos and I'll be the only Mother of the Groom who was weeping all through the ceremony. I'll have to take my whole makeup kit for the touch-ups. Crying from happiness, you understand. I get very emotional at things like this. I even teared up last September when younger son became Godfather to a darling little boy. Things like that are taken very seriously here. It's a life-long commitment. The Godfather gives the child it's name. Even tho' the parents have chosen the child's name, the Godfather actually has the right to change it. The priest asks "Who gives this child it's name?" and the Godfather/mother replies "I do." Then the priest asks "What name do you give him" and the Godfather/mother then states the child's name. It was very touching especially seeing younger son's face when he was holding his godchild. You would have thought it was his own child.

And yes, you did read correctly. Older son is getting married in October.

I've started tearing up already. :upset:

They're getting married at the church I was christened in as well. Mind I don't remember much of it. I was only 6 weeks old.

Stirls, you'll be the best looking Mother of the Groom evah.

:goodjob: Panno on not caving in i was tempted today as there were special offers on in the centra store when i was there earlier while out for a walk but i got on my way quickly towards home and only bought what i went in for. I also read the Alan Carr book on kicking the drink but it didn't work as i caved in not long after. Jason Vale's book is similar tho i'm only a few pharagraphs in. Has any one here read both or either of these books?
