There lived a widow, such a kind old dear.
For 40 years in a basement flat.
No friend had she but her old tom cat.

One Christmas Eve in the cold and gloom.
A blinding flash lit up her lonely room.
There stood a fairy saying "Have no fear."
"To grant three wishes they have sent me here."

With trembling hands she held forth her purse:
A widow's pension won't go far of course.
The fairy waved her wand around.
And on the floor lay ten thousand pounds.

"An hourglass figure and a face divine.
All my life have I wished were mine."
"Hold tight." said the fairy. "and I'll have a go."
And made her look just like Marilyn Monroe.

This gorgeous figure in the chair she sat.
When she chanced to spy her old tom cat.
"He's my only friend, so if you can.
"Make him my handsome young fancy man."

Some magic dust from the fairy's wand.
A puff of smoke and the cat was gone,
And in its place right beside her chair.
Stood a tanned Adonis with long golden hair.

This handsome youth to the girl drew near.
And whispered softly into her ear.
"Oh. the night is young but you'll regret
"The day you took me to see the vet!"

              Hiya Mumma,

I have read the book, as has Jonesy i think. I got mine from a friend who is a book seller, because as youse know, i am SO well connected. She knows of my drunken past. :H

I firstly had a look around the bigger book chain stores here in Melbourne, and it had to be ordered. Around 30 bucks i think. For me, the book is worth a read. It focuses on mindset, and the fact that we are NOT missing out on anything when we stop. We are only gaining. And ain't that the truth. It also talks about society's and advertising's brainwashing us since kids into believing consuming grog is normal, and conducive to having a good time. Which as we know and see, is not always so.

If you've read Allan Carr's quitting books before, this bloke used to work with him, and has a similar approach. Above all, i think it's worth a read, and the more weaponry we have in our arsenal the better. My attitude is that even if only one line in a book, a movie, a conversation, helps us to move forward, then that's a good thing.

                G'day Techie,

Yeah, i miss my bacon and eggs for $1.99 at 'Joe's greasy grill' (cafe name escapes me) near cnr. west 31st street and back a couple of blocks from Avenue of the America's (?) in Manhattan when i was there in the early 90's. :H

                Safe travels mate.

Techie, I just read of your 93 hotel experience. How embarrassing. I guess you can laugh at it now, or does it still make you cringe?

Gee Missy, what a close thing that was. Hope her insurance pays.

Hello Mr G. Good to see ya!

Missy, I think your bruising will come out today and tomorrow. You'll probably have bruises all over the shop. Did you get a check up just in case?

All absolutely correct Bridge!! I didn't go to the Dr yesterday (despite several people telling me I should) because I was insistent that I had no physical injuries. Today I woke up feeling like I had been hit by a truck with quite a lot of bruising on my right side. I have administered lots of arnica, but the leg wax I had this arvo was a bit more painful than normal :H

The other driver has been absolutely brilliant. He rang yesterday afternoon after he finished work (the reason he was speedng was because he was late to work). English is not his first language and I know the company he works for - he wont be earning much more than the minimum wage. His first concern was for my wellbeing, and he was insistent that he would pay for all the damage, even though he said he wasn't insured. As it turned out, his daughter (who grew up here and has good English) rang me later on and the car was insured. I was so pleased as I had sort of been thinking that I really didn't want to put him into a position where he might have to go into debt to service the cost of repairs. But I was really touched by what she said that her father had said to her - he was obviously and genuinely remorseful and wanted to make amends. If I had to have an accident, I'm very grateful that it was with someone who I think has a lot of integrity, and I have been sending good karma to this guy all day.

My car is likely to be written off though. It's a nana car, but it was mum's so that feels a bit sad. And it is incredibly reliable and nothing goes wrong with it. Plus, in the last 3 months it has had 3 new tyres, a new cam belt, a new clutch and a new battery. And the amount it is insured for isn't that much. If it is written off, I think we will try to live without a car for a little while and save the petrol, parking and insurance costs for an overseas trip!!

Mojo, I ordered it off Amazon. I really like it and it is worth getting. The chapters are quite short - I leave it beside my bed and quite frequently dip into it before I go to sleep.

                      Arvo all,

Time for a bit of a Thursday afternoon gibber .... soooo ...

Techie - one of our ex Prime Ministers found himself stranded in his underdaks in the corridoor of a Memphis hotel once - don't know if drink had been taken or whether he peed in the aspidistera though.

Ella - where are you? Getting excited about your trip? It must be coming up soon.

MoJo - great to see you firing on all fours again.

Bridge - can't recall what we were talking about when I mentioned fave authors but understanding your SoH, I think you'd really like "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving.

Saucy - what's your latest chook reportage? Are they laying? Both of mine have stopped. Hope it's a temporary condition. I shudder to think I may have to buy supermarket eggs. GACK!

Beags - you're sure cooking up some damn fine meals there, girl.

Nicey - did I see you cruising around the boards today?

Raggsy - good to have you back. Slumdog - ok but wouldn't walk over hot coals to see it again.

Missy - I'd call that a "nice" accident - if you get my drift. So glad you're ok.

MrG - always the ebullient one. Noice.

I hear you on the supermarket eggs....I would be kicking and screaming "I cant go back"....girls are going well, feathering up and looking quite handsome...Hermione is beautiful actually...but dont get me started....if I leave them locked up til 8 each morning I get 3 eggs a day....from 7 chookies but I reckon we are the rest home of chookies so thats ok...I feel a bit mean keeping them penned but they free range until 6ish depending on light and if we have to go out...

I could write an Ode to Chookies....or maybe Techie will do it for me...

Well, i gotta tells ya's. I've had a bonza day, and what a bloody ripper it was weather wise here in the sunny sister city of Thessalonikki. After a very noice long run and workout under blue sky's in and around kilometres of our sunny inner city parks and gardenage, i cooled down as i often do with a relaxing walk toward home. I often stop orf for lunch in me shorts and running gear at one of the many local outdoor cafe ambiences. Today, it was Tom Phat. Yer student front of house waiterage, usually efficient (depending on whether they're studying music or maths), switched on creative chefage, and owned and otherwise run by ''Jason and Sybil" from the eastern suburbs.

I had the 'yellow chicken curry' absolutely sensational!
