Dont want to stick my beak in but just bear in mind it's entirely possible your mum may just have a complete change of mind in a slip second, they have been together for a lot of years despite everything that has happened.

I realise that, yes. It is a worry that has been at the back of my mind.

For now, the focus is just on getting her better. I'm setting up sessions for her with a psychologist, so that she can start working through everything. As long as I know that I've done whatever I'm able to.

Yes I do understand and she is lucky that you and your dw are here and doing so much for her. One good piece of advice I was given many years ago was that we never know exactly what goes on behind closed doors between a couple. It has stopped my making assumptions. I hope they find peace with whatever is in their futures for we are here for such a short time, too short for regrets and recriminations I think.
