    pshyco -status on Alcoholic?

    Hi everyone!
I have a big problem at working place though I am not on Al at that time.
-no concentration at work, though I am at office my mind is not with the work and always deeply think otherthings like regretting past and worrying for future.
-When people ask anything I hardly understand at once so people used to say that I can't understand others. It is because of that my mind is always deeply engaged on regreting.
-I can't remember the things others saying even a very short information.
-I have lost most formal words of communication.
-My speaking is blurring and can't understand at once by others.
I am on depression pills as well and drinking too much.
Could you please share your experiences or information how Al and depression worsened memory concentration?
    Thank you for your information.
    Dixon

Dixon, I believe AL can do bad things to your short-term memory even when you are not actively drinking. The damage is irreversible, I believe. The memories you have lost due to AL will never be retrieved, and the fact that you are suffering when sober is a clue that your problems are far-reaching and your AL consumption needs to cease in order to function.

Someone who's experienced this might have more information for you.

Dixon - you should really see a doctor. My sister drank to excess and suffered neuropathy in her brain. It was kind of like a stroke. She is sober now and she is almost back to normal, but she pickled herself for many, many years. The combo of the depression meds and alcohol is very dangerous. I am not a doctor, but I have seen what that can do first hand. Please get yourself some medical attention immediately.

                .
This is only partially correct. Alcohol affects both storage and retrieval functions in the brain. If storage is disrupted by AL then the information is never stored in long term memery, and hence can never be retrieved. An example would be during a blackout, short term memory is working - hence we are talking, walking, etc., but transfer to longer term memory may be disrupted. Hence we remember nothing the next day.

The retrieval process is also disrupted by AL. Information is stored in long term memory, but we have difficulty accessing that information. I think it is not fully understood how or why this happens. An example of this is having a really fuzzy and incomplete recollection of events. The maybe with time, and some piecing together, we might recall more.

Alcohol affects virtually every part of the brain. Unlike drugs whose mechanism of action is very targeted to, as an example, specific receptor sites, alcohol permeates the nerve cell membranes so is indiscriminate and pervasive - affecting virtually all brain function.

At least that is what my teachers tell me.

I know that others have suggested that you seek medical attention. I believe that you do need medical intervention, as I do not believe that we have what you need here at MWO. Please seek medical help.

                        Kate,
I can manage me if I get a sponsor who can help and guide me in every aspect of my miseries/life.I am not wiling to go for medical assistance at the moment as I am doing my job and I am only 40 years old.If I go to doctor the medical history will stop me to do many things ( afraid ).I am greatly satisfied with Anti-Depressant so the only matter is to avoid my loneliness and raise self esteem.
I want to be in touch with someone who is spiritually and literally sound.
Please advise if you have any idea to get this services.I went to AA but cant find someone. How can I be in contact with the succeeded people ?
                        Thanks,
                        Dixon

                          Dixon,

I've never been to AA, but I've always heard that sponsers are available for anyone who needs them. Did you ask? That might be something you should try. I can encourage you here on MWO, along with others, but I am not far enough along in my recovery to be a sponser to anyone at this point.

                              Dixon,
AA is the only organization that has a program for "sponsors" that I am aware of. Here at MWO we do not have this program. At least not in an organized way. You might want to read the "AA Thread" here, you would find out a lot more about AA. Also, it takes a while to get to know people, perhaps you might give AA another chance. But again, you sound like you are looking for "Therapy" to help you learn how to gain self esteem. And it sounds like you could use some help with learning to establish long lasting friendships and relationships. You might want to check out therapy groups for these things. I know that you have been coming to MWO asking for these same things and somone to help you fill the voids in you life and I hate to see you looking for the sort of intense one on one help that you probably will not find here, not because people don't care, but because the sort of assistance you seek is way beyond the online support for stopping the abuse of alcohol.
