Hey all - in from work. Feeling better today. Need to get my head togther and read back and see what I was taking supplement wise to find out how I stopped so easily in jan. I will do this again. I have to - am worried about my EKG results and the smoking and drinking can only cause more problems. Off to get something to eat...

Sorry Paula - that was a terrible flip reply. I really shouldn't have said that. Just the way I am feeling right now. i have quit twice. last time was in Jan and started again when I went for a trip to UK to see my mum in March!! SO I am trying for a quit again in a week or so!!! Paula, if it was easy, there would be no alcholics. We need something to occupy our time that doesn't involve AL, and we need to really WORK on finding something that helps us make the change. Unfortunately there is no magic bullet, so we have to do it the hard way. We need to know more about you (nothing personal, identifying) to offer you the right advice. We are definitely NOT experts, and in all stages of making this work. But you know this takes work. Do you have a plan? How much do you drink? And what have you tried. You can fix this, if you truly want to. Please let us help you. There are some great crazy people here, and each one has a different way they got (or are getting) sobriety. But we're all working on the same problem. Asking 'why' is common, so many ask themselves there. There are those in society don't want to change, but the folks here on MWO are different
I'm sorry I haven't been around more, and don't stay long, since I have an injury to deal with, but there are so many who will help if you open up. Let us help you, OK?

Thanks, I have been drinking almost every day for about six weeks now, I have managed to stay sober for long periods previously, but this time I am finding it so difficult. I don't always get drunk but when I drink I feel such remorse and guilt, I swear I wont drink again but always end up doing the same thing. Sorry to hear of your injury.

Happens to us all, dear. The main way to get ourselves right is to find what works. Drinking IS an addiction, but the meaning of that is diverse. We're addicted to the pleasure? Is it really pleasant to realize what we're doing to ourselves? And AL effects change after a while. What used to be a real trip become just drinking. We've lost the thrill - value by abusing it. Have you done things to keep yourself away from it, thought of ways to occupy yourself?
There's also the meds. Some work fantastically for one, but not the other. Still it's an option to find what works. I LOVED Topamax. No cravings. But that also doesn't work for others.
Paula it's great to have you here. Join in anywhere, and ask for help or advice. These peeps are my friends, and they're a great bunch. I'm a bit crippled now, and can't stay. But PM me anytime and we'll work on this together. Love your avatar!!

ruby please make sure you ret and relax young lady .. dont worry about me when you get some time call ... but if not just take care of yourself for now .. things will and i know they will workout ..
for sue and i but right now uncle is still in the morgue.. waiting for my ex to figure out what she is going to do ... but sue and i are just trying to get this house and uncle things set aside and we are going to have a yard sale everything goes and that means selling what i havent use in the last 3 months and selling all the ladders conoe and dingy ,scrapping all the metal ,extar tools ,yard tool and mowers riding and pushmower and what ever isnt nail down.. and when wre ready we wont have heavy load just what needed ..
