I have no experience with the Rx drugs, but I did use Kudzu and L-Glutamine and I truly believe that it helped a great deal with cravings.

I think it is extremely important to know that to maintain sobriety one must change our thinking patterns and our way of dealing with lifes ups and downs. One of the most valuable bits of knowlege that I received early on was "WE DO NOT DRINK DUE TO A STRESSFUL OR SAD SITUATION, WE DRINK BECAUSE WE ARE CONDITIONED TO DEAL WITH ALL FEELINGS WITH THE USE OF ALCOHOL". I know this to be true.

and yes...I have an alcohol problem and these stressors make the Beast rear it's ugly head...

I don't recall anyone calling you a minion, do you feel like one MB?

I know you have visited Ruby, I know a few of you have, I see no evidence of "her heart" here to be honest, you don't help people and then brag about it and tell people what you have sent to them and how many times you have called them etc etc....You also don't ignore cries for help and then post about yourself and your trivialities on a constant level, you don't post the same pictures of your property over and over and over again and then say you want to "share the beauty" of what you have with everyone over and over again while people are struggling under your nose.

                Thats just narcissistic.

The gratitude V deprivation mode REALLY worked for me in the early days, you can read all about it on the tool thread. Also learning not to give in to every uncomfortable urge...because urges pass.

Nora many stressful situations require physical responses these days, we have to deal with most events through more subtle behaviours than running away or fighting. And yet consumption of alcohol does seem to allow us to effectively ?run away? doesn?t it? Maybe this explains it?s popularity

I think you hit the nail on the head Mario...the numbing desire is so strong, when, if we would allow some time pass, things are never as bad as we thought they were...

Zens more likely it depends on our beliefs about ourselves, our estimation of our ability to handle the events in our lives, which is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If we can effectively deal with events, there may be less urge to run away from them, and hence perhaps less urge to drink.

Mario - that is exactly right!! I have used it to take me away from my problems.....my stress....my depression. Finally, that was all I did. I never faced anything. I am working very hard on changing that mind set. Developing tools to use. To be honest, the last few days have totally blown me away and in the past, I would be drinking every night. But, I'm not going to. Don't even have the desire so that's a big step for me.
