    hypnotherapy - does it help?

Can I please have some feedback as to how helpful hypnotherapy is helping to stay sober? I am not a very 'suggestable' person (apart from when a bottle of wine is giving me its cunning grin) and have been described as cynical and strong willed (apart from giving in to drinking).
    Any thoughts there?:new:

    hypnotherapy - does it help?

I did not care for the MWO CDs. I tried them for a month or two, but found the language disturbing (not offensive or insulting, but just goofy; odd pronunciations [going down the escyulator]. And it really didn't help me. But some here do find them helpful, and there are numerous other hypnotherapy programs that might be better or different. just my 2 cents.

Thanks CS04 - I live in NZ and have already purchased & listened to CDs - very much what you describe - escalators etc. Strange voice - accent etc. Maybe they are the same ones. The only time hypno tapes helped me was when I was in birth labour - I remembered a silly voice upper class English voice talking about riding waves - ha ha- then I asked for an epidural (I had been 20 hours in a very painful labour & baby was under stress)
What I am asking is if people have tried face-to face hypnotherapy with a trained specialist? Thats my question.

You might want to track down Nancy by going to the member alphabetical listing. I think she has had success with hypnotherapy.......also Supercrew. Not 100% sure, but try looking them up and sending them a PM.

Sending you peace and strength. :lilheart:

Everything works differently for people. I ordered other tapes, and they were wonderful. I still use them for relaxation and sleep. But that's me. I too am looking for a good hypnotherapist to help me with pain issues due to MS. If I find a good one I'll let you know results.

            hypnotherapy - does it help?

            Hi -

I went to a trained Hypnotherapist in person for a 10 session program and have spent a mint on various mp3's/cd's from all over the web for various things - because if you do the same script religiously for 21 days - you will start seeing a difference - but it has to bee the same script and you need to make 21 days.

There are higher quality recordings for audio and binaural beats than the MWO line. The line from Steve G. Jones has the best, most advanced recoding techniques I can find - and I have spent more hours than I am willing to admit on this because I do believe finding the right one - can make a difference. His are more around modding and self forgiveness. While I felt hugely more positive about myself, and I did reduce the amount I was drinking - going from the sea of wine to most of a sea of wine didn't get me where I needed to be.

I will say his voice is more melodious, recordings higher quality, and if he had a total abstinence version - I would strongly prefer it.

The MWO for mod did NOTHING for me. MWO for ABS made a big dent in things. My best for ABS so far was when I took the money I saved on my last long quit - and had a custom done that starts with the MWO ABS script, followed by 3 of his standard scripts - 1 that deals with a core trigger, 1 that tells me to deal more positively with change, and finally - 1 that reminds me to face life with gratitude. The days I use this - I feel better able to deal with challenges.

The content of the scripts are richer with the MWO hypnotist are richer and better written, the induction and voice inflections are weird and distracting. I just focus on getting to a relaxed state and the content - and past the weird induction.

And I will say - it's worth ordering the day time script in other music as it truly does trigger post hypnotic cues not to drink - which is helpful at the witching hour. In fact - I think I will go get my iPod now..
That popping sound you hear is me attempting to remove my head from my arse. It's been there for years so this may take a while.
Admitting I need healing. And I am not big enough to do this alone.

              hypnotherapy - does it help?

I found hypnotheraphy after I decided to quit drinking. I do alot of self hypnosis/meditation now, but I never really used it to stop drinking. I do use it for relaxation and for focusing on things I want to get accomplished. I have found that the more I do it and the more I believe in what I am doing the more effective it is. Basically you are going to get out what you put in.

If you think you are going to just throw in a CD or cassette and listen to it and and quit drinking you probably have your sights set a little high. I use it to keep me in the right frame of mind daily so I'm not looking for an excuse to drink.

                excuse the confusion.
I was asking about hypnotherapy with a human being - not a tape. I did not expect a CD to make me quit drinking - but the ones I have listened to did not help me to relax/think about not drinking.
I am lucky to be able to walk outside into the bush and have that calmness.

I know this is hard work and whatever works - is cool.

                  hypnotherapy - does it help?

                  a good complementary thing

My first exposure to hypnotherapy was the CDs, which did nothing for me.

Doing it with a live person was 100 times better. I did it along with psychotherapy. I did three sessions of hypno combined with emotional freedom technique. I found it to be pretty amazing in making me think differently about situations. It's not a magic bullet that's for sure. But as a complement to long-term psychotherapy it made me feel like I was turning a corner. Personally, I don't think alone it would make you stop drinking. But it will help you work on the issues underlying drinking and reach for a better life.

Hypnotherapy teaches you coping skills which can help you deal with life without substances. I think it really must be personalized.
If you do it in person, if a suggestion isn't working, they give you a different one that does work for your personality. If you buy CDs you are stuck with that approach.

                    hypnotherapy - does it help?

                    Hi treetops,

I for one found the MWO Hypno CDs to be very effective primarily because I truly wanted them to be effective!

It really doesn't matter what method you use, how much time or money you invest ~ if you go into something with the attitude that it's not going to work then it probably won't!

Dropping the negative thinking & attitude did a lot for me, opened the door to real change

                      hypnotherapy - does it help?

Hi, YES it does. I got the hypno CDs and they did nothing what so ever but when I was at my lowest low and went to a trained hypnotist. I'm now 2 years sober. I don't think of al anymore, I don't want or need. I'd recommend it! It honestly worked for me.

Oh, find someone trained and alcohol abuse. It should stop you reaching for the bottle. It did for me and I was bad, real bad. Feel free to see how bad by reading my pervious posts!

                          hypnotherapy - does it help?

                          more on hypno

I was surprised that this seemingly flaky emotional freedom technique works well with hypno. That's the way my hypnotherapist works. There is so much we just don't let go of though and it's a simple method for letting go and I often think about it. I personally don't think you need someone trained for addiction though no doubt that would be ideal. I didn't go that route because the people doing it also came from the 12-step tradition and I did not want that. Addictions generally, including food addiction, have similar roots and can be dealt with in similar ways. One of the most valuable lessons for me was this idea of choice that was introduced into my hypno sessions. And it's a very positive way of dealing with addiction, not shame-oriented at all. I think personally that sobriety or reducing drinking needs to be a choice, you are choosing a better life. You have to like yourself to do that, which isn't so easy for people. Now that I think about it, I wasn't very good about doing my practice every day, but there's not a day that I don't think about it and benefit from it. Hypno can help with extreme anxiety too, which is a major trigger for addiction.
