I just want to say Thank You All

I just wanted to say Thank You for all the support I have found here. I first started trolling this website back in Aug'06 but was afaraid to join so I took whatever information I could glean,The Topamax, the supplements,and the stories. I tried to stop drinking that way. It didn't work. Allergic to the topamax thinking I was destined to be an alcoholic because my Dad was. I don't know why I decided to join as a member but I did Jan.26th '07 So glad I did! your posts of support and encouragement couldn't be more appreciated.I am talking to people who know what it is like and we can admit to each other that we are alcohlics and it 's OK because we are indeed works in progress; In the 11 days since I started (I am trying moderation) I have had 2 slips 1 planned for Superbowl (not a good decision) and 1 totally because I couln't cope that day. But with you all,each day I become stronge rand with your insight,wisdom and friendship. I sincerly want to Thank All Of You!! and 2 big hugs for Lush and Lisa

I'm hesitant to post a negative on a positive thread but I really feel I need to vent. I am a Canadian who has been living in the US for 20 years. I live in WA state, my husband is American and my adult kids have chose to remain in the U.S. Due to my husband choosing early retirement we moved from Texas and built a home in WA state. Unfortunately, it is too close to the rain forest for me - 120' of rain per year so I rent a studio apt in Victoria where I spend a great deal of time. I have friends here, feel a level of comfort here, etc.

As a result of the recent US policy of needing an updated passport to travel I have to update my passport pdq, although my green card is sufficient for ferry travel. I had to stand in line today for 7 hours to just renew my passport in order to accompany my husband on an overseas trip next month. I was prepared for the wait, and I am prepared to chat for a very long time, which I did and made nice friends. What the problem was was the "commissionaire" (security guy") who treated all of us like 2nd or 3rd class citizens. There was a couple in front of me in their 70's and hubby had had an op an needed to get into the warm building to stretch his muscles and the commish told him to get back out there. Then a wonderful young man came along around lunch time who was delivering lunches to office buildings and asked us if we needed any food and the commish told him he didn't have a food selling permit, etc. I did get processed and on my way out I told the "commissionaire" that he was unhelpful, a jerk and he could have could any number of things to make out life better and he chose not to.

I was so cold and my back started to spasm I bought some alcohol, and I have been doing sooo well. I am angry and disappointed in myself. As far as government "little people" go I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees.

SK, Focus on how well you have done. I would be so proud of all of those AF days you have done, if I had done them. I am sorry you are disappointed in yourself but don't be. I have to get a new passport to so we can get up to our vacation home in Canada. I hope it is a much easier experience than you had. DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP!!!!!!!!!!! You have done an amazing job since you started coming here.
