Did I do the right thing?

As most of you know, my brother is in a very bad way.
His girlfriend called me and told me he drove home drunk (after he just promised her he would quit), and he was completely wasted. She told him she would have to follow through on moving out and he got in her face and then took the 2 dogs and got in his truck and left. He had no shirt, no shoes and two pit bulls in the truck. She was begging him not to drive and as he was pulling out, he almost hit her with the truck.

I told her to call the cops and she said she didn't want to ruin his life.

    So I called the police.

I know that I said I wasn't getting involved, but I think this is a necessary move. I don't even know if they will find him, but I feel that I really had to call.

    What do you think?

Nursie - I'm so sorry. You did the right thing. :l He almost hit her. He is wasted & angry. He could hit someone while he's driving. He could come back & hurt her.
You did the right thing. :l

Nursie, great big cyber hugs to you. What an awful situation to be in. You did the right thing, but it must have hurt so much. I hope it all works out in the end.

I'm a lawyer nursie-- maybe this will make you feel better from a legal point of view-- you fulfilled a duty tonight-- yeah you don't have a duty to act but imagine if Something happened and you didn't act. I don't post much any more but I feel your pain-- I would have called as a citizen, a sister, a friend-- hang in there!

Thank you everyone. I know I had to do it. And this want the first time either. But it still hurts.
They said they would call me if they got him. I hope he's ok and he doesn't hurt anyone. Praying hard tonight.

Thanks for all of your kind words.

You did the right thing. By her not calling the cops herself, she could be ruining his life if he ended up killing someone or himself.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

It must have been incredibly difficult for you but you absolutely did the right thing.

                        Hi Nursie,
You did do the right thing, even though it was a tough decision. I understand not wanting to make things "worse" (as the girlfriend was thinking) but the results of his drinking and driving could be deadly, for him or an innocent victim. How did it turn out?
:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

Of course you did the right thing! When someone in your brothers condition leaves the property in a 3 thousand pound vehicle, its not just about you or him or his girlfriend anymore. As the victim of a drunk driver with ortho problems that left me with a life time of pain....thank you for calling the cops.

I agree with everyone-you definitely did the right thing. He was at risk and so was anyone else unfortunate enough to cross his path.

Nursie - what everyone else said. I can only imagine how difficult it was for you to do that but you know you had to do it. How could you live with yourself if you hadn't called and he had injured, or worse, killed someone when your call might have prevented it? I hope the police got him before something happened and I hope he gets help for his drinking problem.
