Hi Boozer,
I can relate...there was something about the 40 day mark that got me a few times! Seriously, I'd get right up to 39 and then BAM. I don't know how many times I started over at what would have been day 40. All I can say is that you CAN get through this..I FINALLY did. Everyone seems to have different "numbers" that they struggle with. Believe me, everytime I caved on day 40 I regretted it. Save yourself the trouble and just get through it! Wishing you strength!

I am nearing a year and for a few seconds my mind went to drinking and was trying to plan for it, but I reminded myself that I don't have the money nor the want to drink again and then reminded myself that I no longer drink.I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.
Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.
Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

I hate catch phrases, but 'that stinkin' drinkin' thinkin' is appropriate. The thought comes long before the action. Learn to stop them in their tracks, as DA said. We'll be around this weekend. I can't post much one-handed, but will watch for you.sigpic

I don't have 40. The most I have is 30. What do u think changes at forty? It sounds almost biblical...40 days and 40 nights.
Can you share any of the circumstances? Maybe the mind set? I am trying to prepare.
I need to pick a date.
I know I know. I'm working on it. Pinky swear. .On My Own Way Out Since May 20, 2012

I'm not sure what it is about the big 4-0 that always made me cave...maybe I thought I was "cured" since I'd done so well for a month and a half! I think that was it...the false sense of security. Thinking "I've quit before, I can do it again". Yes, it does sound Biblical, like a plague or something. LOL
I hope you make it through Boozer, I'll be here for you too!
And Kradle, pick a date already! LOL:heart:I love my daughter more than alcohol:heart:

Boozer, I love the phrase, the first drink is the easiest one not to take.
I'll check in this weekend too. Sending you peace and the strength to stay AF because I promise, it's a much better life if you can just give it enough time. Be sure to distract yourself, go for walks, get outside, read, watch t.v. - stay away from triggers. Drink lots of water or herbal tea and eath healthy foods. If you have to, grab something sweet to quell a craving. Are you taking any supplements? L Glutamine is a good one. Read around the site to see what others are doing. Don't forget the Toolbox under Monthly Abstinence. :lilheart:

hey Boozer, good luck for the weekend, you will be fine, just don't let the inner thoughts divert you from your path.
It's not easy, it's not fun but it is worthwhile.I refuse to be labelled or ashamed. Through my struggles I am achieving self awareness and clarity.
