    Army Thread Wednesday 16th May

its not a miracle cure (re the sleep) but I have to learn to cope without shoving bloody pills down myself every night
And as for Tigger well we are learning and it's a very difficult journey some days
    And other days she's a delight !!
I have a drink problem, I have been AF since 15 March 2011 and I am working hard to stay that way

They don't call me Pingu Purple Pants for nothing....

Busy helping the youngest with a school project (the reason for last night's epic tantrum, whereas it was a pleasant experience tonight).

      So far so good:

Ach work was a bit hit and miss today.

Very busy, but me heart's a bit sad. A lad that went into re-hab in February came out a couple of weeks ago and has managed to drink himself stupid since.

And then on the other hand a lassie that's just out of re-hab looks really well and was off to the weekly boot camp full of the joys of spring. So me heart lifted a bit.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

I pulled my Ace today though. Been keeping it until I absolutely had to. I told her she could hemorrhage badly the next time. It's true though... she could... I felt mean putting the shits up her (pun intended) but she left me no option!Actually, I did something similar to Mr. Stirly years and years ago. He had a hernia lower left side of his abdomen. He'd had it for quite some time and it caused him great pain at times but he didn't want to go to the doctore about it. Didn't want to have surgery no matter what. I read somewhere that basically his type of hernia was a part of the intestine that had protruded through a weak part of a stomach muscle. I don't know how true that is, it was just what I understood from what I read. The article also said that blood flow can be cut off to the part of the intestine and that gangrene can set in. So, in order to scare the rat poopies out of him, I told him that he could get gangrene which could spread to other parts of his intestine and body. Within a week he'd seen a doctor and two weeks later the surgery was done.

nice one Tigger, my job got easier

Oh yeah me and Tigger on the same beanbag.. and with all that space she would STILL lie on top of me! I can take it into the garden apparently and lounge in the sun..Pingu, I don't mean to sound like a smart arse here, but could part of her problem be related to what she eats or what she watches on TV? There is another member here who's child is very hyper. I've seen lots of pictures of this kid and in a lot of the pictures, the kid is eating something chocolate - full of sugar and caffeine as well. Just wondering. Another member posted recently about her child throwing a tantrum and she puts it down to video games that the child plays. Just wondering is all. My older son had a problem with artificially flavoured grape drink when he was young. He was usually a rather calm kid but give him that grape drink and he'd be literally bouncing off the walls within minutes. I'm not insinuating that you don't watch what Tigger eats and watches on TV, it's just that sometimes we don't associate behaviour with other things that could affect it.

I looked at all your "shiny things" piccies. Made me cringe a bit at some of the piercings cause I expect they hurt but I think they look really nice. Should I get a small diamond nose stud for my birthday in August or am I too old? I considered it a few years ago but never did anything about it because older son was dating a girl at the time that had one and I didn't want to look like a copy-cat.

Were you sayin that TIgger makes me cranky? The comment wasn't really about me (although I do get cranky when I dont sleep enough). I am learning to deal with Tigger now, ignoring works wonders or immediate distraction. Anything is better than shotting vodka to deal with her
Anyway the tantrum ended quite quickly this time without even any intervention and her brother didn't get smacked either so that's positive!
Glad to hear things have calmed down and that her brother got off easy this time.

                            Hello stirly

I hope you're well, economic problems aside?

stirly-girly;1317440 wrote: Reccie, I understand what you're saying but tourism alone is not enough for this country to survive on. One of the problems is that we have no large manufacturing companies here. They took their business to countries like Bulgaria and Romania where the real estate and labour are cheaper. It now costs them much less to make their products so they can compete by selling at lower prices.
Returning to a devalued drachma would make Greek real estate and labour cheaper to foreign countries, encouraging inward investment and allowing Greece to compete with Bulgaria and Romania. Building up a manufacturing base would take time of course...

stirly-girly;1317440 wrote: Something that has me worried is conversations I've heard on television when they've been discussing what will happen if we go back to the drachma. One of the things mentioned was that we would not be given any credit by other European companies for things such as pharmaceutical products and gasoline. Since we are depending on the loans from the IMF to pay pensions and civil servant wages, how will they be paid? Without a line of credit, companies would have to pay cash for products imported, such as electrical appliances and vehicles and that is simply not viable. For example, if Mr. Stirly were to import products from Germany and pay up front instead of the 3-month credit line we now have with our supplier here in Greece, it would sorely bite into our profits as we would be much later in collecting our money since few of our customers pay cash. All the stores and companies that we deal with pay off their credit in a 3 to 6-month time period. I don't know what's going to happen and it's most upsetting to see that over 20 years of very hard work could literally fold up over night.
Remember that the loans from the IMF would be to the Greek government, not to Greek companies.

It's true that Greek companies would find it easier to get a line of credit from foreign companies if Greece was in the eurozone so that is a valid concern. I won't say any more than that cos otherwise I would start talking politics as opposed to economics and that's not what this forum is for, but you're welcome to PM me if you want to discuss it further. Obviously I sincerely hope that your business will survive.

As for the elections, I have no idea. I think they have elections three times and then if no one wants to take on the job of being Prime Minister, someone is appointed by the President of Greece and has to form one. The same thing happened some years ago and we had a couple of wet rags for Prime Ministers. Right wankers they were.
Thanks for that info.....I didn't know.
