I can't even shit without her next to me, so no fecking chance of typing. Only thing is she guesses a lot when she's reading so doesn't always get every word right, but yeah she misses nowt, I have to get her to pissoff if I want to write after school...
She knows one gets fat asses from eating shite, we keep telling her because she seems to be addicted to sweets....

          Afternoon

managed to get a few hours of fairly shite sleep and decided it was to get up and see what's been going on in the barracks. Off to read back.

stirly-girly;1317148 wrote: To tell you the truth, things here are not well at the moment. The economy is shite and we are really starting to feel it in our business. We are down to about 25% of what we usually do at this time of year. Actually, I don't think we're making a profit at the moment, just barely making ends meet. Mr. Stirly might be better off if he closed the business but then I doubt we could live off of his pension, and frankly, I don't know what he would do with himself if he closed the store. He doesn't really have any hobbies and even tho' he attends the plants on our big balcony and generally the few plants in the garden around the building, we live in an apartment building and he really can't get into gardening big time since the property is co-owned by all of the residents of the building. And I think depression would hit him big time if he retired. He says he never wants to quit working so we'll just struggle along hoping things turn around soon. We've just had federal elections with three parties getting 18%, 17% and 13% of the votes - enough to form a government if they could manage to agree on a few things. Mainly the one left-wing party that came in second is the one that's holding out and so we're most likely going to have elections again in a month or so. The whole thing has to do with the economy that's gone belly up and how we're going to right things. The left-wing party doesn't want to adhere to the rules and conditions set up by the International Monetary Fund that we're hoping to get huge loans from, and for some reason think we'll be better off if we go back to the drachma. So things are really up in the air here right now and everyone is worried sick and scared about what the future holds for this country.

Now are you sorry you asked??
Wow, business does sound REALLY bad, stirly. Sorry to hear about that. I hope things pick up for you soon.

Seems like there is going to be another election next month. What happens if the result is the same? Do they keep having elections indefinitely?

I honestly don't see how Greece can stay in the eurozone. People like your own family are hurting too much. Greece survived outside the eurozone before and it can do so again. The trouble is that the politicians have invested too much political capital in the euro, so they are trying to frighten people into thinking it would be a disaster if Greece left the euro. If Greece leaves the euro it can have a competitive devalued currency and the tourist industry would flourish.

Enjoy your trip to the Lakes, whizzy and good luck with your marathon. I'm ready to go camping in the Lakes for a few days myself, but waiting for a dry weather forecast.

Russia seemed to do that with great success a few years ago
I'll try and give an equally simplistic answer molly. In many of the eurozone countries, the governments borrowed from eurozone banks, particularly the banks in their own countries. So the Spanish government would have borrowed from the Spanish banks for example. If the Spanish government says it can't pay what it owes back, I'd hazard a guess that the Spanish banks would be in big trouble. And the Spanish people would start withdrawing their deposits from the Spanish banks which would exacerbate the situation. Basically the banks would go tits up. And no one would be prepared to lend to the Spanish government so it would immediately have to start balancing its books. Public sector workers would go unpaid or sacked, and Spanish unemployment, which is already 25% would go even higher. The result would be a depression that would dwarf the great depression.
