    Oney's Eat Right NOT Shite Thread.

    Hi Guys,

    As many of friends here know, I have been struggling with my diet for a long time. Ditched the booze and the smokes but the horrendous diet still remains despite numerous attempts to rectify it.

    I am lucky in that I am slim so not really looking to lose weight (about 4 pounds would be nice tho). I just need to cut the crap that makes me feel tired and lethargic.

    My average day would consist of.....

    2 cups of coffee in the morning
    No breakfast
    Bowl of those pack noodles and 2 waffles for lunch
    Maybe a small plate of dinner (roast/pasta, curry)
    Then at about 10 pm I will have chips or burger or sausages etc etc.
    Can of Coke.
    NO water
    NO Supplements

    At the weekend I could have up to 4 takeaway's.

    So as you can see, things have to change, I can usually do things that I put my mind to, but this really, really is hard for me, this eating regime is ingrained in me and healthy food tastes YUCK and I don't enjoy it.

    Having gotten into the holistic life and spirituality so much over the past couple of years, the diet is not helping, the people I mix with would not DREAM of eating what I do and the bottom line is, I WANT to be as healthy as I can be, inside and out.

    I don't expect you to comment on this thread, I am using it like a journal as I did here when I was giving up the smokes and it worked so well for me. So i want to chronicle every day, what I eat and how my eating patterns change and who knows...I may even grow to like healthy food.

    ANY help, tips, suggestions would be gratefully received, but I need to try and do this in baby steps so I don't get fed up and ditch the idea.

    So off to the shops not to get some healthy things in..and some water, I drink NO water..ever..

    In fact, I have eaten nothing so far today and it is midday. Told ya I was dreadful....so 2moro is D Day.......first day of my new diet and hopefully my new way of life.

    Oney, good for you! (literally ) Might I suggest taking zinc to improve/expand your taste? I remember that it was successful with children who were picky eaters. I don't know details such as dosage, but I'm sure you can google up something. I seem to remember that you need to start at low dose to avoid upset stomach.

        Oh Hun,
        I can help and you will lose those pesky kgs in like 2 weeks!

        Breakfast;
        2 boiled, scrambled, poached eggs.

        Snack yoghurt ( repair the tummy)
        Lunch: tin of tuna and mixed salad leaves with a bit of oil and apple cider vinegar ( helps tummy and insulin)

        Snack yoghurt or handful of nuts or piece of fruit

        Dinner: fish, chicken and vegs.
        Up the protein and you will find your not hungry to snack on junk!
        Not only that u will drop the kgs easy - promise!!
        Today I chose to start living!

          Oh and lose the coffee slowly
          Kicks up insulin levels in turn relates to sugar cravings etc== alcohol cravings

            Thanks Over it! I was thinking, maybe a herbal tea in the morn instead of coffee? I only have 2 cups in the morn so not worried bout the rest of the day but love my morning coffee!

              ta for that diet, So Over It. I want to loose about 5-7 kilos, and I find if i stick to salad and protein it really helps. I will follow your diet

              One2many..I used to be addicted to coke a cola,drank about 5 drinks a day, ended up with kidney stones, which i passed (if you get my drift) It was the most excruciating pain i have ever experienced..and i found out later that coke can cause them. Not that you seem to be drinking much coke.

                Coke would be my only liquids during the day and evening Daya, I want to knock it on the head, you have just made that easier for me!

                That diet seems VERY doable!

                HAVE to try to get the veggies in tho, I HATE them! I presume salted peanut do not count as nut??

                  veggies are nice. broccoli yummy
                  and no ketchup on yer chippers is not one of yr 5 a day.
                  I have a drink problem, I have been AF since 15 March 2011 and I am working hard to stay that way

                    Oney, I think the trick to eating healthy is to eat things you like mainly but try to change things like brown bread instead of white, honey instead of white sugar, definitely get rid of the coke and go for something like a sparkling water with a slice of lemon. When I first moved to Greece, there were some veggies that I didn't like at all because of the way we were used to preparing them in Canada. For example, my Mom always served beetroot warm, in a bland white sauce that made me gag. I detested it. Here they eat it as a salad, cold with EVOO, oregano, fresh garlic (optional) and red-wine vinegar. They leave it to marinate for a couple of hours and I love it. I would eat it every day. If you write a list of veggies that you like and ones that you so-so like, I'd be happy to suggest a couple of ways of preparing them that you might just enjoy. Just out of curiosity, what do you cook for the rest of the family on weekdays? Could you not say, make a bit extra of the pasta or curry and have it the next day as your evening snack instead of sausages or chips or a burger. As for the burger, make your own with really lean ground meat, using oatmeal instead of breadcrumbs for a filler. Milk instead of water keeps the burger moist and fluffy. Grill in the oven instead of frying and use a brown-bread bun instead of white. Top it with a slice of low-fat cheese, slices of fresh tomato, onion, lettuce, whatever you like plus mustard, ketchup, whatever you prefer and you've got a burger that will put a DaddyMac to shame. You can make killer oven chips as well with only a bit of EVOO instead of frying them in a vat of oil. If you want I can let you know how I do those as well.

                    Best of luck with your new plan. Oh and FWIW, I don't think having two cups of coffee in the morning is bad if you need the caffeine boost. Personally I drink de-caf cause caffeine makes me irritable but if it doesn't bother you, then drink it. You really do need to drink more water tho' and eat breakfast as well.

                      That would be wonderful Stirly, I would appreciate ALL of the above!

                      One thing I have done already it ditched the white bread, I don't buy it anymore, instead I make my own, healthy High Fibre bread from scratch, it is delicios and even the kids have switched over..

                      Now Veggies I like......

                        mmmmm and I 'm not a big lover of ponsy veggies but I love the normal ones!!! You wont catch me eating a mushroom tho!

                          I LOVE mushrooms (are they a vegetable?. see look what you are dealing with)

                            Lightly oiled baked vegetables, sweet potato, pumpkin, potato wedges, also throw in some garlic and small onions, with a drizzle of sour cream. Yum!!!!!
