Oney's Eat Right NOT Shite Thread.

I'm curious about this juicing thing. Is that all you eat, well drink, just juice all day? Where do you get proteins from?

I know you don't like the trips to the bathroom but seriously, you need to go more often. I remember we had a conversation about this a while ago. You know yourself that it is essential that you get enough liquids into your system every day to help flush out toxins of all kinds whether it's from air pollution or preservatives in the food we eat. And if you don't drink enough liquids, it's just not going to happen. Plus you risk kidney stones and other things because your body is not eliminating the wastes properly. Here's a link I just found for you.

    http://www.naturodoc.com/library/nutrition/water.htm

Maybe you could make your visits to the bathroom more pleasant by using baby wipes or something similar, so you feel you're cleansing yourself and not just wiping with toilet paper. Sorry for putting it that way, but you know what I mean.
    :H:H:H:H

I don't mind the actual weeing it's having to get up and WALK to the bathroom!!!!

Seeing as I'm doing recipes again, here's one that sounds really good. It's not my recipe and I've altered it a bit for lower fat content. While the olive oil is relatively high in calories, it is very good for you. Reccie - you seem to like spinach - give this a try.

Pasta Gratin With Spinach and Ricotta Cheese

        Ingredients:

500 gr. whole wheat penne or shells or similar pasta of your preference
        ? cup (4 TBSP) EVOO
        500 gr. frozen spinach
        500 gr. ricotta cheese
? cup of parmesan or pecorino cheese, grated
1-1/2 cups fat-reduced gouda cheese, grated on medium size grater.
        ? cup milk (preferably low-fat)
        A pinch of nutmeg
        Salt, black pepper

Note - if you can't get the gouda already grated, or get them to grate it for you, put it in the freezer for 15 minutes to harden it up so it's easier to grate. Being lower in fat, it's higher in moisture content and tends to stick to the grater. And lightly oiling the grater helps as well.

        Instructions:

As soon as the spinach is defrosted, squeeze out the excess water. Put it in a blender or food processor along with the ricotta cheese and "pulse" the mixture until it is blended but not pureed. Add half of the parmesan cheese, the milk and the gouda cheese and season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.

Boil the pasta in salted water until ?al dente?. Drain well and return them to the pot. Then add 2 tablespoons of the olive oil and toss lightly until well-coated. Add the spinach-cheese mixture and blend well. Taste and correct the seasonings, if needed. Transfer the mixture to a well-greased, shallow, oven-proof dish. Drizzle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of the olive oil and sprinkle with the rest of the Parmesan. Preheat the oven at the 220?C. Place the dish on the bottom shelf of the oven and bake for 15 minutes until the food is golden on top. Allow to cool a bit and serve.
For every 60 seconds that you are angry, you lose a minute of happiness.

          Juicing

          Hi Stirly
          do you have Netflix?
the Documentary Fat, Sick and nearly Dead answers a ton of questions and is a very inspirational'
I juice veggies now that I would NEVER eat on there own: beets, kale, spinach , yams, cabbage, yuk I use fruits with my veggie juices too though not as much as I did in the beginning. another ' juice master' Drew Canole' talks about our TOXIC TASTE BUDS' Boy that describes me. Trying to slowly replace them!
I do not juice solely though I would like to do the ten day juice detox...just can't work that in with my schedule so I use it as a big addition every day and I have the kids juicing too with apples, carrots and pineapple. they are not always good about it but we are trying!
anyway, I could go on and on about juicing. I think as an addition to helping our bodies heal from the alcohol lit is absolutely invaluable!!!

No, I don't have Netflix, I live in Greece and don't even know what it is.:H

I eat all kinds of veggies on a daily basis and some fruit as well. Start my day with buttermilk and a banana, then on to porridge (oatmeal) with honey and skim milk. Lunch today was fish, a mixed greens salad with a mustard-olive oil dressing and fava (mashed split yellow lentils with shallot, chopped parsley, EVOO and fresh squeezed lemon juice.) Then later in the evening a sandwich of whole wheat bread with fat reduced gouda - 11% fat content - and mustard. Actually, I'd prefer to eat the veggies rather than drink them. Jason Vale's book is available at a bookshop near here so maybe I will buy it just to give it a look-see.

With that gorgeous diet you really would only juice as a supplement at best ! the main reason to juice is to get an instant jolt of nutriients into your system right away for system cleansing purposes ...and of course those of us who are pretty nutrient deficiant because we drink, well the highly concentrated vitamins and nutrients of your fruits and veggies can be easily processed.
You can always download Netflix or the doc on your computer if you get a chance..we are all just a click away these days. I had such a good time in Greece when I was there, 5 million years ago (when I was at university in England!) boy those where the summer breaks

Well, I never would have thought of adding mussels to that dish. I bet it was delish. They do a mussel pilaf here that I really like. I had had it a couple of times at this one restaurant and decided to give it a try. Actually (patting me own back here) mine turned out a wee bit tastier than theirs simply because I spiced it up a bit.

Now here's a recipe for Oney who says she wants to try some more meatless dishes. I made this today and wrote down the measurements since I usually just chuck the things in by splashes and dashes since it's my own invention.

                          Meatless Spaghetti Sauce

                          Ingredients: (for two servings)

1 packed 8-ounce cup of mushrooms grated on medium size grater (I use portobello or large white mushrooms with the stems removed)
                          1 cup Passata
                          ? cup EVOO
1 medium (2-inch) red or white onion chopped fairly finely
2 TBSP finely chopped green pepper
                          ? tsp. garlic powder
? tsp. finely crumbled dried basil
                          ? tsp. dried oregano
                          3-4 shakes cayenne pepper
Salt to taste (I use a salt substitute so I can’t really say how much regular salt would be needed but I imagine ? tsp. at least)
The herbs and spices can be adapted to each person’s individual liking. I like my red sauces spicy and I like garlic. Others might want to use less.

                          Instructions :

Heat the olive oil in a medium size pot, add onions and saute lightly for a minute or so. Then add all the other ingredients and half a cup of water. Simmer on low heat, covered, for 15 minutes stirring once in a while and checking if it needs more water. After the 15 minutes, taste and adjust the salt and herbs. Continue to cook covered for another 15 minutes stirring occasionally. After the time is up, if the sauce is too watery, cook on medium heat for a couple of minutes, uncovered, so the excess water evaporates. Stir often so it doesn’t stick. I serve this on whole wheat spaghetti with a parmesan-type cheese.
For every 60 seconds that you are angry, you lose a minute of happiness.
