sobriety question
This may sound totally stupid, but from someone that had hit the bottom knocking back at least a 12 pack of buds a day for a long long time as well as hand full of opiates the nest day to maintain the status of a high functioning alcoholic, i am peased and shocked to say i was released from detox 27 days ago with an impressive implant, as well as campral and topomax and I must say i feel a miracle has occurred. Budweiser has been my best friend and worst enemy for the past 29 years, progressively of course, and I have even been around it and have not touched it. I am truly amazed and grateful for each and every sober moment, day, and week I have had. My question though, I have been attending AA, do I really deserve a chip if I have been smoking a liitle pot? Not sure exactly why, I guess I am so used to my mind being altered for so long, have I really been sober for 30 days? Thanks for listening.Tags: None

All depends on you, dear. Personally, I don't call it sober, but it's up to you since I've never been a pot user. Best to strive for a completely clean month, IMHO, of anything that alters your mind. GREAT on your progress, and best wishes.sigpic

sobriety question
Hi Unfolding!
Welcome to MWO...and congratulations on your sober time so far. I can relate to the love/hate relationship with Bud...I had the same relationship. 12 cans per night...sometimes more. I can't really answer your question about the chip and the pot. I have only been to a handful of AA meetings, mostly court ordered, and it never gelled for me. I don't know their "rules". I just know you're doing well on not drinking and I hope you keep it up!! Please let us know how you're doing!

Hi All
It is called changing your drug of choice. Sober yes but still self medicating. I am not an aa person but don't think they consider this clean time.

Hello unfolding - in AA you would not be considered chip-worthy, but you don't have to ask for a chip. Just go to the meetings and do your best.
The weed vs alcohol thing is a dilemma. It's good to be off the alcohol, even if you smoke some weed. On the other hand, a recovering alcoholic who smokes weed is pretty darn likely to go back to drinking - because what goes better with weed than beer and pizza !
Good luck to you.

sobriety question
Generally, the whole sobriety question can be summarized in a question: Does it affect you from the neck up?
There is a difference between recovery and just not using or drinking. If you are recovering, you have a sponsor and are working the program of the 12 steps. I had to change everything and I did that at:

Can you please explain what is an impressive implant? Also does this mean you were Rxd Campral & Topamax? I take Topamax. I know there are new clinical studies & off label Rxs, but haven't heard of those two being combined together or of an impressive implant. Unless, it's Vivitrol (sp) monthly injection.
I second what Mid West Guy says. I have experience with AA.
Trading drinking for pot. Pot for drinking. The pot would slow the drinking down when I was younger. There was a time I preferred it over the drinking when I was young. Then I quit pot for years. Then smoked it once in a while. Could take it or leave it. This last yr I tried it again to slow my drinking down, it didn't work this time! The drink won! I've also had periods of sobriety in my life ( no booze ), but it's all a game. I call it denial. Cause, its an addiction & it's a disease; imo. I've only being doing this for 30+yrs. The pot may lead you back to your D.O.C. Possibly, creating a new addiction, Pot. Maybe not..... I hope not!..... If it does you may want to consider avi2809 post below. Along with other treatment plans to find your way out!
