    Army Thread Friday 25th May

Stirly just listening to the news and Simon Calder our travel guru saying just take Euros to Greece not plastic as I am going next week what should I do??

Mrs. A, I have no idea why he would say that unless he's trying to scare people into thinking that someone here might steal their credit card number and use it for their own purchases. Does he have an e-mail address available at the Independent that you could write and ask him personally? He wrote in the newspaper that travellers to Greece should beware of the Greek euro. I have no idea what that is about either. It will be some time before Greek deserts the euro if it ever happens. I don't expect they can do much with the dummy government that we have right now. I expect the decision will be made after the new government is formed. Perhaps Reccie would be able to answer better than I can.

I got up later than planned and its too hot already to be working out in the garden so maybe I'll try again tomorrow. It's like a jungle out there now :upset:

Really need to give this drinking lark a rest.

Hope all is well in the barracks.Reccie dear, you worked so hard to taper off slowly and then get AF. It really is not worth continuing as you are. Please try to get back on track.
Recluse;1322706 wrote: I keep emptying bottles of wine satz :upset: Still, at least it's not whisky like it used to be.It's still AL tho' and you were doing so well without it. Are you still seeing your alcohol counselor? If not, maybe it would be a good idea to make an appointment.

Have you get a plan in place Reccie? Never give up ging up as I have you lined up for Kilimanjaro
Well, I don't know if Kilimanjaro is in the cards but you could set a goal of walking a bit further each day (or night) and getting some more exercise. Any chance of going to a pool? Swimming is great exercise and would help pass the time.

I'm trying to get things back on track and reinstate all my good eating and exercising habits, whizzy. I should NEVER have started drinking again.
Well, it's not too late to stop again. Remember how long it took you to taper down before. This time you can do it faster because it's wine not whiskey.

Reccie I tried a million times but it eventually clicked. Even then I have failed but the joy of being hangover free and healthy keeps me sober. Horrible disease but keep fighting Reccie.

Yes I can still run in this weather I went out last night when it was cooler. Just a recovery run after the Windermere Marathon on Sunday.
    :goodjob: Mrs. A.

Reccie, please get out your memory box and pull out all the reasons why you wanted to get sober in the first place. Come on, you can do this and you've got all of us helping you which ever way we can. Even if it's only virtual support, it is real and it's here.

Simon Calder explains his reasons in full on his web page:

Simon Calder BBC television presenter | Travel Editor of the Independent newspaper | BBC radio travel journalist | The Man Who Pays His Way

Basically he says that if Greece exited the euro you might not be able to use plastic for a week or so, so you would have to rely on cash. I agree with that but think it's unlikely (though not impossible) that Greece will exit the euro before fresh elections next month.

I am trying stirly, but it's so fecking hard! It's wearing me down. I'm still seeing my alcohol worker, but privately and in his capacity as a psychotherapist. We don't talk much about AL any more cos we've discussed it ad nauseam and flogged the subject to death. It's down to me now.

I'm back to walking for 40 minutes each night again. It stopped for a couple of weeks when the drinking was out of control but I understand the importance of getting exercise every day. Swimming is more problematic. I'm not called recluse for nothing and I get stressed by all the people at the pool.

Thanks for your encouragement and concern stirly :l

Reccie, I know you're having a rough time and I truly hope you can get your head in the right place to get sober again. Good that you're out walking again and I understand about the people at the pool. Any chance of increasing your walks to two a day, one late evening, one in the morning? Just a suggestion. And can you start tapering off on the wine again? At least try to drink a bit less every day. I know it's hard but the truth is, every time you start drinking again and then try to stop, for some reason it gets harder. You can do this, you know you can.

And no need to thank me or anyone else for support and concern. That's what we're all here for. To support when we can and to get support when we need it. :huggy.

And thanks for that link to help correct the problem with my computer. I checked it out but I'd have to reinstall English as the main language on my laptop and because I need the spell check in Greek for the e-mails I send to our customers, I was afraid that I might lose that and I can't do without it.

Now where the heck is everybody?

Ach we're doing it tonight so we're not trolling round friggintesco in the heat tomorrow..........oh how wonderful to be able to type them words.

We did sweet f*** all this morning. Me and the boss sat on the fire escape most of the morning listening out for the phone, having a coffee, a smoke and a bit of a natter.

She told me her younger brother died from heroin addiction. How very sad.

Then the dentist seemed to take ages to do this deep clean, me mouth isn't half sore.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

I could definitely try walking twice a day, stirly, though I might not be able to manage that every day. And yes, I will try to taper down again. Maybe switch to beer for a little while.

I will think some more on your computer problem and PM you about it, probably tomorrow. Have you got one or two languages installed on your laptop?

Hello Jackie! What did you do at work today?

                    Edit....oh, you already answered that!

                          Hiya Reccie

Mrs. T and I are going to the restaurant that'll be hosting her 50th. We'll have brunch while discussing the menu (and most assuredly the budget) with the owner.

Other than that, just some pesky chores.

I would rather not leave things like the weekly shop to them, Reccie :H We might end up eating roast marshmallows for dinner...

I do want to take the eldest one for another driving lesson. He's quite good at it.
