The partial eclipse started about 8:15 last night. I braved the wind to watch it.

And don't forget. THE TRANSIT OF VENUS STARTS TOMOROW AT 8:35 EST.
And where will I be at this time? At the school preparing for scripture. Maybe I could cancel. Say I have a once this century event to attend.

Geez Techie, Where ya been? I've been talking about it for weeks.

      And practicing...

And dammit I won't see it as I got to teach little kiddies about being kind and caring.

Now why didn't that picture reduce to half the size like I told it to in Photobucket?

If you don't have No 14 glass from welding goggles you can't watch the transit unless you have similar filtering. I do. Amongst other things, the sextant is used for sun sights... mainly taking a noon sight. And for that you have to look directly at the sun. The sextant has a series of filters to allow you to do this. I was polishing it up to track the transit just like young James did all those years ago in 1769.

And it will be the best transit since 1769.
That's why I specifically want to see it. If it is not cloudy.

They occur in a pattern that repeats every 243 years, with pairs of transits eight years apart separated by long gaps of 121.5 years and 105.5 years.

This transit will occur on 5 and 6 June 2012, and will be the last Venus transit this century
and best seen in FNQ. So hop in your car Happs and head north.

Very slowly and cautiously. I use hiking poles. They help stabilize and prevent one from gaining too much momentum while descending. In some cases you need to butt crawl down more steep slippery stuff. It can be quite tricky at times !
Ever tried glassiding? I glassided about 600 feeet down a scree slope in the Pyrenees in 1988.

The Transit of 6th June 2012
For the transit of 6th June 2012, Venus will take about six hours and a half hours to travel across the face of the Sun. Venus must be above the horizon for the transit to be visible. Australia is one of the best places on Earth from which to observe the transit as the entire transit will be visible from eastern and central Australia. The transit will have started before sunrise for those observing from Western Australia.

Venus will travel in a straight line across the Sun. However, because the Sun appears to rotate as it crosses the sky, Venus will appear to move in an inverted “U” shape when viewed from Australia.

And I think I've probably bored you all enough now with that.

Okay folks, I walk into a deli in downtown Scottsdale. The guy behind the counter says "can I help you sir?" I ask for radish on rye, light mayo. He smiles, and asks the person behind me how he could help her.

She squealed in a shrill fashion, which was totally unacceptable to my ears so I was left no choice but to thwack her mercilessly. And I stood on her pointy shoe.
Can understand that. Radish sangers are really really nice.

Enough of this lunchtime falderal. Twice-baked Cheese Souffle was good and will undergo further development.

Now Techie, I trust you will represent the Undies at next Saturday's Mighty Mud Mania Obstacle Course?
