OK - my soup challenge short list consisted of:
smoked mussel chowder (a favourite here with good sourdought bread)
Borscht (couldn't find any fresh beetroot at the market this morning)
Aveglemono (ambrosia from Greece)
French Onion soup (still one of the best soups ever invented IMHO
Mulligatawny (just because :H:H)
But in the end I went with something I hadn't tried before, but which will now be a regular on our winter menu. No photos sorry, it just looked like soup!! But this one is a winner!!
Carrot, parsnip and ginger soup
saute about 2cm of chopped ginger in oil or butter (I always use butter as my contribution to the NZ economy)
add 3 carrots and 3 parsnips, grated
saute for a bit and then add about 3 cups of chicken stock and leave to simmer.
Once it is all tender, puree in a blender.
Add cream (the original recipe said 1 cup, I just threw in the whole 300 ml bottle - no point in having left-overs int he firdge!).
Just before serving add the juice of a lemon
It was rooly rooly yummy!!Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn

Evening All
Limited productivity due to tiredness today. Literally felt sick! Jeez it pissed me off. I had a big list for today.
They're not joking. It's important for folk like us not to get tired isn't it?
Soup sounds amazing Missy. If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

techie;1339216 wrote: So who had the day from hell? I DID! OMG, it was awful. Aside from being over 110F, I'm driving down the road going 55mph and I run over a good size cardboard box. I figure the box will just pop out when I hit a bump. It didn't. Well, the box catches fire. I mean FIRE people. So I pull off the road and exit my nearly permanent Swedish sarcophagus and try to dislodge the blazing inferno with a tree branch (a rare find here), and that catches fire. Traffic came to a crawl as folks gawked at this goon with the branch that was more suitable for a shish kabob than dealing with this blaze. Finally the thing burnt itself out. I did see the car exploding in my minds eye (the heat here does that to you). So now I hop back in the car only to find that I now have a piece of glass the size of the Hubble Telescope mirror imbedded in my frickin knee. I just got in from the 24hr Emergency walk-in clinic. They cleaned me up and gave me a tetanus shot. I'm surprised the needle didn't break off in my arm LOL.
I hope you ALL have a MUCH better day....
And I was expecting you to say that inside was a wee kitten someone had dumped for someone elso to run over.
But what would be more expensive? A trip to emergency or having to buy a new tyre if the glass had punctured it?

[QUOTE=tawnyfrog;1339297]Arvo all,
?I?bolognese pinwheels made with Pampas pastry - (yup being drummed out of the pastry challenge as I speak ...)
QUOTE]
And I also saw that recipe on the back of the Pampas when I was making the cheese triangles last Monday. But will give them a crack this week.
Meanwhile have a Bryants family size meat pie for dinner tonight.... nipped into Goulburn yesterday to get my pipes tweaked by a brilliant international piper (he's played with top bands in Scotland) and called in to Bryants .... now located next to the Paragon Cafe in Auburn Street. ... in case any Undies get a bit hungry on their way to the snow. I've only tasted one better meat pie and that was at Wentworth in 1973 when I did a tour in my red Mini Moke...

Gee it's hard to start sentences with and and but. But I'm trying.
Been at Wingello cleaning heaps of mouse shit, moving wood piles to the new wood shed. And we went to a trivia night last night. But it wasn't very well run. And half the people got the shits and it ended up a shambles. But I'm going to write to the secreatary of the Wingello Progress Assn. with a couple of suggestions for if they run one again. And I shall bite my pen and not say put me in charge as quizzmistress. But, they raised some funds so that was the objective.
Now, back to page 46 to finish reading back....
