NEW THREAD FOR THOSE ON THE FIRST FEW DAYS A/F

resrchqueen;1330300 wrote: Tipp... how much did you drink normally?
You want the truth or what I tell myself and others? LOL..

The truth is at least a half bottle of wine daily and often twice that. Over the course of a day off, I could have two beers, a bottle of wine and maybe more. Weekdays the most was a bottle and not often but ALWAYS the better part of a bottle as I hogged more than my share while sharing with hubby.

    That's the Truth. Finally.

The truth hurts doesn't it... I can do in two bottles easily.... That's why I am frightened of withdrawals although I don't typically feel too bad on day 2... I think I am just using it as an excuse to keep drinking. I really want this to STOP!

        Tipp-
I think one thing that really helped me get through some of the tough times, was to find a way to cope with "instant gratification". When I would get a craving to drink, I learned how to stop & really think about what that "one" drink was going to do. Sure, for the moment it would feel great & subside all those nagging thoughts running through my brain. But then what?? That's what we need to think about. The more time I put between me & my last drink, the more I realized how just "one drink, right now" would ruin what I had worked so hard for, and that I always needed to keep in mind "the big picture". So in a way, I look at my sobriety in 2 ways... one with a microscope, which keeps me vigilant & guarded moment by moment... and the other with a telescope, that shows me where I can be if I continue on with steadfast commitment.
I cannot even begin to describe to you what joy & new appreciation for life that will start unfolding for you... your new life awaits!

I can hardly wait. That's what I want: a quality of life that resounds with self-respect, positive energy, vibrancy and all that it has to offer. Big picture is the key. I have never decided "What the Hell; I'm having a glass of wine." and been thrilled with my decision the next day. I have even poured the glass, stared at it for half an hour and then did my efforts in by taking that first swig. Talk about an exericise in futility..
