        Not necessarily. Ask Sausage.

Seems like many significant others resent losing their drinking partner or really have no concept of how difficult it is to quit drinking and think that after their partner abstains for a month or two they're "fixed" and should start drinking again. My husband and I do not discuss my sobriety. He drinks.

It sounds good. Generally, we'd expect a life partner, one who lives with us, to be a crutch we could lean on in hard times, like fighting for our lives! In reality, our partners resist us changing. Some more than others. Then again, some are truly blessed and get 100 percent support. The truth of the matter is, we're in this game alone and if we get help from our partners, great, but if we don't or we're alone, then so be it.

My partner doesn't drink, and he tells me not to drink, if I have the urge sometimes. But supportive of me, I'm not sure. It's because of him that I want to drink sometimes!

Hi Scotsman. I though it wud be easier also to have a partner who would support not neccesary live in just a so. But it seems many peeps have parners/wifes/hubbies and they struggle just as much while others have support. Its tough at timers living alone but for me its early in sobriety to even start dating not that there is much of a dating scene for my age group in Dublin.

Hi again Scottishman-don't mean to be trite but I think either way can be difficult as most have said. Really if we want a circumstance to blame we will find it. I live alone too and many times I've said it's difficult because I don't have to be accountable but don't we only really need to be accountable to us?? If we truly are then I think it will fall in line that we are accountable in all aspects of life.
