A little poll if you will...

    I was curious...

How much did you drink and for how long?
What did you drink as well?

For me, been drinking for 4 years...the last 2-3 almost everyday and it was usually a litre of white wine. The last year I have had sober stretches but they only ever lasted two weeks.

A little poll if you will...

Hi Bris! Good to see you back! I've posted my drinking habits in the past in various places. Particularly in the mods sections. I don't think it matters what anyone else's drinking patterns were to be honest. As someone pointed out recently(pretty sure it was Zen), it's not the amount but what the fall out may or may not be due to drinking. To compare our drinking to others may be a dangerous thing to do. Being honest about what we want and going about achieving it is the key to success. I hope that helps.

      Thanks RC.

I definitely agree with you. And I am not really comparing myself...because I know what I have to do...which is to completely stop. I was just curious in a general sense.

      But thank you.

I do agree, RC, I personally could not tolerate a huge amount. I could maybe look at what one person drank and think Oh maybe I'm not an alcoholic as I never drink that amount, but it's what it does and how it makes me feel that is the problem. Some one said to me recently that he drank a lot but wasn't an alcoholic because he never drank on a morning, so I said I must be then because I have.

Bris, you are doing really well, you are young and have all your life ahead of you. I wish I had got the message at your age.

It was around 10 beers......any number of shots of Jack and sleeping pills until I would finally pass out.

I abused AL for the better part of 20 years....finally had my bottom out point and woke up I guess I never had to question if I was an alky or not..........LOL

Towards the end of my career I was even starting to have 3 to 4 beers in the am for breakfast after everyone was gone.

Like I said, I am definitely not comparing myself.
I know that I am an alcoholic. That I just simply can't drink...

Thank you for everyone's input though.

Sleeping pills and booze - wow...that's a scary combo.

I was your typical social drinker. Then something traumatic happened. I then drank very heavily for about eight years. I mean heavy. I could suck the alcohol out of a mahogany table leg!

                    Briseus,

You could probably do a search on the General Discussion forum as this topic has been brought up a couple of times before, and you will see lots of answers and lots of variations as to how much AL and what kind. Good luck to you in your journey.

I drank a bottle of wine once a week or went out once a week; not both. Then separated from my ex-husband, 4 children aged 2-6, alone and money worries, very very messy divorce which lasted 4 years. By the time my divorce came through I had already started to have a few beers when the kids were in bed. Gradually built up and along with nothing but drinkers about me (probably sought them out subconciously) ended up on 1-2 bottles as company in the evenings......I honestly didn't see how bad it was until I came to MWO in October 2010.

                        Hi Bri,

You asked a question and here's my answer. During the last couple of years when I knew I had to quit I was up to at least 12-15 beers a night, 18 or more on the weekends. Never, ever a day off. Sad.

I had been drinking every day for 25 years. There at the end I was drinking a bottle and a half on weeknights and 2 bottles on weekends. What a mess...(head shaking) and I still didn't see this as a problem...

I also wonder how the hell I managed to drink what I did and survive. I was drinking a bottle 1L of vodka a day, plus more either vodka, cider wine whatever I could get. I woke up, drank, passed out, woke up drank, passed out and so on. I think after the first months it might be irrelevant but to begin with the heavy drinkers will have more problems to deal with, withdrawals and other health problems take a lot longer to sort out when you have battered your body so much.

Having said that it should be more of a deterant not to go back to it, I dont know if that has worked for some, it didnt for me tho, but if I had just been drinking a bottle of wine a night I dont know if I would have ever thought of stopping, I probably would have just carried on in misery for ever, like thousands of other people do.

I think I was like you in that respect Zen. I exercised most of my life and would consider myself now to be one of the healthier and fitter amongst my friends and family, which seems hard to believe after the way I poisoned my body. I was playing with fire - working out the way I did could have also been dangerous considering the work my body was having to do to be able to deal with both. Although towards the end of my heavy drinking there were signs like dry patches on my skin, redness of the face, palpatations, panic attacks and sweats. After coming here and getting some decent AF time under my belt, 'all' these symptoms disappeared.
No doubt in my mind that should I go back to that life then all the problems come too. Things for me have only got better since coming here. I may not be where I want to be but I am continually on the way and getting stronger.
