Hello Army!!
Horizons - good to see you!! How are things in your part of the world?
RC, as far as Starty's job goes, she mentioned doing her job properly and with compassion. That says a lot. After all, someone has to do the job and better someone like Starty than a cold-hearded bastard who doesn't give a damn about people's financial problems. And as far as the "industry" goes, while there is a great deal of blame to be put on the financial companies, be it banks or whatever that loan people money when they are perhaps not able to keep up with their payments, sometimes the people borrowing the money are as much at fault as the people lending. If you can keep up with your payments, good for you. However, if you spend money you can't really afford on things you don't really need and then can't keep up with your payments, then you have painted yourself into a corner. By "you", I don't mean you, personally, RC, I just mean people in general. I know the financial situation is difficult for many right now but people forgot long ago what a saving account meant and instead of putting aside a little bit each month for a rainy day, used plastic money to buy things they really couldn't afford. Overspending and not saving will lead to a very difficult situation. My parents brought us up in an era that you only bought what you had money in your pocket to buy and you took care of the basic essentials needed for a household before you bought anything else and you started saving for next year's vacation as soon as this year's was over. People have, over the years, gotten so, so far away from that conception. No wonder there are problems when there was no thought for the future but only for the here and now as far as money went. Not wanting to start an argument here, just stating my general opinion on the topic. As Zen would say, as you were.
On another topic, very windy here today and hot and apparently it will be that way tomorrow and Tuesday. I just hope people are careful about things that could cause wildfires and forest fires. For every 60 seconds that you are angry, you lose a minute of happiness.

As far as the money thing goes, we have one son who never has any money in the bank and we've had to bail him out a couple of times and one son who is very careful with his spending. He puts money in the bank every month and persuaded his girlfriend to do the same, starting about 6 months ago. So, in spite of our setting the example and always letting them know how we felt about spending what you've got and not what you haven't, unfortunately our success rate was only 50% as far as teaching them good money handling. Mind you, you can't force them to do what you think is right, you can only set a good example, turn them in the right direction and hope they follow your example.
Satz mentioned my name earlier - off to see if I can do some damage....For every 60 seconds that you are angry, you lose a minute of happiness.

Hi guys.
Thanks for sticking up for me. TBH I thought it was probably the booze talking.
But anyway, just for the record, I too have always saved when I could afford to. Been so poor that I have lost my home, been so poor that I have lived on rubbish or too little food just to make ends meet and sometimes they didnt. I have never asked anyone for anything. Never had parents who could bail me out and always tried to manage on what I have coming in.
So before you judge me RC or anyone else for making a living I would ask you to think about what comes out of your mouth / keyboard before you fire off accusations and judgments.Living now and not just existing since 9th July 2008
Nicotine Free since 6th February 2009

Just saw your wedding pic on FB Benji -- wow you were a pretty wee thing
I know what you're saying about the 'all or nothing' mentality Tabbers - very alkie alright - I think I achully get a bit glum when I'm doing stuff 'halfway's' - cos that's all the time I have - but nothing feels 'done' - even tho in reality - they're done well enough to get by - does that make sense
Thanks for what you said bout the job Reccie - and I know I'd be well able - it would be supervisory level and have always been comfortable with that - but it's thrown up a lot of 'alkie thinkin' traits in me. Will I be laughed at by my colleagues for even going for an interview at my age - will I be thought differently of - not that I'd likely get the job, but just even 'losing the run of myself' by trying, I like my 'persona' at work - it's easy - I just go about my work, have a rollicking good laugh with someone every day - and head firmly below the parapet. I like being 'liked' - I think this is where Starty's balls come in - so to speak
Elvis died 2 days after my 21st - my sister's cried for 3 days - buggered if I even knew who he was
Must away get ready for AA - oh shite that's another story - suffice to say - there's an absolutely MAD woman now goes there(she used to live round the corner from me and we did occasionally have a bbq and imbibe a few in the past) - but she's dyin to be my bessie mate - like when I say mad - she's burned down houses sort of mad -- do I need that in my life???? - I think not:H Talk laters xxFor every 60 seconds that you are angry, you lose a minute of happiness.

My profile picture is a few years old - sums me up really !
No not stripping - just taking my coat off at a works 'do' when someone produced a camera :H
