Thanks Paula. It's amazing how much better you feel to know you're with like minds. I also suffer with arthritis - I hate it. I feel like a human barometer. I have a headache and a backache all the time when it rains - even when I'm not drinking. It's been raining for days now and I just feel insane as a result. I always try to remember "nothing ever got better by having a drink" but the past year has been a bitch and I have fallen by the wayside as a result. Looking forward to being normal again. This has to stop.

With rain like that you must be in the same country as me ! The weather is set to improve at the end of the week, but yes it's so depressing. Just try to concentrate on not drinking, if you feel like a drink post on here there is always someone about who will make you feel better. You will feel normal again. Have you seen your Gp re. your pain ? there is so much that can be done, at my hospital we have a pain clinic, speak to your dr. Pain can be so draining..

Hello friends,
Wow! This thread is really hoppin'.
Mama, you will be fine as long as your alkie brain didn't convince you that "a drink" is a good idea.
You will need those future vacations, but maybe a little more time relaxing with a book?
Nora, I hope your friend is doing better. The rain mostly held off four our Sunday community worship service, where my small group sang. Just a few drops toward the end.
Tracey, Welcome! My drinking tended to escalate in the past each time I received more bad health news: arthritis in more joints than I can count began at age 40, also neuro problems, and more recently GI problems. If I didn't have an alkie brain, that health news should have made me quit nearly 20 years ago. But at least now I am ready to quit, done for good this time.
DoDo, do you plan to stay at the 10% reduction, or is that a step toward quitting? Frequently even the people who plan to drink moderately recommend that a person do 30 days AF days first, so you can more objectively evaluate your situation, and develop some AF behaviors. Quitting can be difficult, but reliably controlling how much you drink is even more difficult.
I had a pretty good day at work, then went to a favorite store to pick up some nice soft short sleeve tee shirts on sale. I have a stack of vacation souvenir shirts, and freebees from various events. I have worn them for working in the yard, but it's time to dump most of them in favor of softer, more comfortable ones.My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. Day 9 AF for me and I'm feeling 'normal'.
Now starting to wade through all the dirty washing and actually making a hole in it instead of just washing what's needed!!
I feel smarter and cleaner now that the toxic sweat has gone and I don't jangle anymore.
My energy levels are really taking me by surprise and my flabby midriff is starting to melt already.
I'm using the focus of me physically stepping it up a level or 2 or 3. I was stuck at a certain body shape even though I regularly exercise and lifted weights - although regular may be stretching the truth a bit because of the lack of energy and 'can't be bothered' mode that alcohol brings about.
Really sleepy though a lot of the time, but thinking that's my body healing so all good.
My plan of no alcohol in the house is working but I do have a night out tomorrow so not sure what to do.Honour Thyself

Emily, think about doing 30 solid AF days. I think that puts ones life in clearer perspective. I know you said you are not ready to declare AF for good. I know all about not being ready, it took me over four years of learning to get where I am now. Just a thought. My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. Good morning everyone. I'm coming up to 30 days, which I've done many times, I even went a few years some time ago. This time I am really hoping to kick the booze for good. I feel so much better than I did a month ago. I wake up remembering the previous night, I have more energy, I enjoy cooking and even cleaning,I have been able to read, which I could never manage to concentrate on when drinking. Life is so much easier without al. I used to think that I wasn't ready, but I just had to do it, when thinking about it I was never ready, sometimes we just need to say enough is enough and just get on with it, do anything it takes, it really is worth it..
