Drinking Viinegars?
Hi, I read about these Asian drinking vinegars on a foodie chat board (Chowhound) so I decided to give them a spin as an alcohol alternative. They have just the right sweet and sour balance to attack my craving for wine...and now I am finding myself craving them. I have scoured the label for alcohol and none is listed. Does anyone know about these?
Thanks!:new:Perdida

I had to google this as I had not heard of this before, and now I'm very intrigued. I love sour tasting things, and this sounds perfect for a non-alcoholic cocktail.
Apparently you can also make it yourself with fresh fruit and vinegar, and it is indeed non-alcoholic per this site:

Thanks for the tip. I'll be looking for this in my local Asian stores.AF since 6JUN2012

As a former dental hygienist, this scares the heck out of me...vinegar is a major acid and can really work on your teeth. Major erosion. Be careful! (sorry for the buzz kill). Byrdie

Seems like you'd have to drink a hell of a lot of vinegar for it to do substantial damage to your teeth. Couldn't be more acidic than fruit juices or sodas. And, from what I read, these "drinking vinegars" are mixed with sparkling water, not full-on vinegar.

Are these the fermented "mushrooms" that are all the rage now? You grow them in big jars on the kitchen table?
They look super gross :egad:On My Own Way Out Since May 20, 2012

lol, no the fermented mushrooms are kombucha. I finally tried some this weekend. I'm not a fan.
I got it at a Korean grocery store. Look for something called vinegar with pictures of fruit on the label. Then look for an illustration showing how you can mix it with various amounts of water. I've had blueberry and pomegranate so far and they are yummy! (If you like sour things):new:Perdida

I used to drink organic apple cider vinegar. It helped with my stomach issues.
Beyond that not too much but did not take it for AL issues.
Had to stop as I started getting gout and eliminated anything that may make my blood more acidic.
