Something I find immensely stupid. Killing in the name of God.
      where does this go?

On a postive note: My very favorite bumper sticker is--

        GOD LOVES EVERYONE--NO EXCEPTIONS!

All of the above-named issues bother me, and I appreciate the sensitivity of our thoughtful members. I find it all very overwhelming, and if I thought of all of this stuff on a daily basis, I doubt I would be able to get out of bed.

The issue that affects me the most is the war in Iraq, I suppose. I am sick of our leaders spending my tax dollars on the war without my consent and not spending it on pressing problems here at home, although I am concerned about what will happen to the Iraqi people when left to their own devices. I think America should take care of its own problems before we start trying to create rest of the world in our own image. I am also concerned about the outsourcing of so many "blue collar jobs", and the fact that we no longer produce many of the goods that we consume. We have lost the backbone of the American middle class, and it is criminal. We are setting ourselves up to be victims of the global economy that we are trying to create.

Okay, I relinquish my soapbox. Oh, and the reason I am talking about that in particular is because the question asked about what effects one the most. I think that some of the other problems may be more important in the grand scheme of things....

        Hugs,

        Kathy

It's great to know there's a lot of good-hearted people on this site. I also strongly believe that killing in the name of religion is not right. At the same time, I believe in the times we live in rather than turning to the bottle to solve our problems, we do need something more 'spiritual' to help us deal with our lives. I certainly do not mean to say that we need to turn to highly charismatic 'Praise-the-Lord'-type of worship (no offense), but a systematic study of the scriptures which basically can helps us answer some basic questions we have - where have we come from, why are we here, where are we going. Anyway, just a thought. Don't want to sound holy, grin ...

But I think what REALLY destroys the fabric of our human society is the current spread of nationalism, and the way the media is used to ferment it. And when it comes to the crunch, the world religions don't help in the making of peace either ...

Anyway, ... that's my 2 cents to the issue

Southern Belle, I hope your post was sincere and not in jest? Anyway, I've decided, at last, not to post or read any more on these forums as it is clearly not the place for me, don't believe in God, am horrified at the naiviety of those who seem to believe that a scam like "The Secret" is going to help them in their lives (obviously only helps those who are making money selling the CDs etc), Word Association games (no comment!) Sorry (no actually I'm not - just being polite I suppose, as always) however, good luck all, I have been interested in your stories, but have always, always felt outside the "pack". Please don't respond to this post, the thread has run it's natural course anyway I think, so hopefully no-one will read the end, just needed to put this in "writing" to make it more official to myself. I'll delete it later anyway, I did that after the "mouse problem", LOL!!!

Hey TT, hope you're still reading. all I can say is Bollocks, my friend... I don't believe in God, or theSecret, but you know what, some do, and in this difficult life we should be grateful for what gives us comfort if it doesn't hurt others.

don't leave this site TT. take the bits that work for you and leave the rest...smorgasbord recovery!

                  wishing you well, kx

Thanks Kate, comments appreciated, but it's not for me, not been doing me any good, in fact it's been making me worse, concentrating on the alcohol issues, a bit like going to Weight Watchers and all they talk about is food!!! LOL. Like I said, good luck all. Nice bunch of people, and great support for some, but hey ho, not for me.

                    Cheers

PS - sorry Paddy - thread spoiled - ha, ha Lucky!!!

Me too..don't quite get it. Trying not to take offense..I've discussed The Secret, like others, but certainly don't think it's anything new..I'm not so niave...and neither is anyone else here..so that's kind of an insult..it's just a nice reminder that our thoughts are pretty powerful, just as TTs are..they can be used in helpful ways or unhelpful ways...we're here to help each other..and whatever works..HEY, we should try it and share it....I do know that 'terror' doesn't work, tartan..maybe you should start by taking the terror our of your name?

Oh dear, oh dear. Anyway, don't worry guys. I don't think this site is meant to be a battle ground for 'believers or non believers'. Far from it. And it's certainly not meant to convert anyone to become one either.

Again, I congratulate all of you who so nicely stuck to etiquette, despite the lapses of one member. Let's hope that the person comes back. No harm done. Maybe just a moment of discouragement or something.

                            Hi all,

A further comment to all those that have been added here...

All of the reading I've been doing indicates that we can make a difference individually. Think of the Butterfly Effect.

I don't know how many of you have read "Power vs Force" by David Hawkins, but the bottom line is this.

Just one person living and thinking positively is enough to counteract the negative thoughts of thousands of others.

Dr Hawkins talks about the use of energy and how if someone like Jesus was on the planet today, he would be enough by himself to counteract the affect of all of the negative thoughts of others - on the whole planet!

I don't know what everyone else here thinks about Jesus, but I believe he was a real person that lived and truly understood the laws of how the physical universe works. He was so in tune with these laws that he could really work miracles. The great part about that is that we all could - if we could just release ourselves from our social programming.

When Jesus said, "Ye are gods", he meant that we could all access this awesome power. For me, I am still learning - and would never say that I could approximate anything even like him - but I think I could learn to be like him in some small way.

                            So what's the lesson?

In everything you do, act and respond in the most positive way you can. Never think that what you do doesn't make a difference. Be kinder than necessary. Look for the good in others. Send love to those who hurt you.

You can't look after others unlesss you looks after yourself.

Getting sober or well is the first step in a personal journey to be able (body and mind) to tackle these serious issues.

Not selfish - looking after number one is the most practical gift you can give to yourself and others.

Otherwise you are not engaged in the real, but in the virtual.

This site and the people on it are doing as much for the world as they can at the moment - and it's a big contribution.

The people on here who are well and helping others are magnificent in their actions...

I love what you are saying Cashy, and I agree. Ghandi said, be the change you want to see..if I'm not mistaken. I also think that it is more important to be FOR something than to be against something..so if you are against pollution, be For recycling, if you are against the war, focus your energy on PEACE..be FOR Peace. Just a minor switch in where you are coming from can make all the difference. What the world doesn't need is more hatred or more fighting, even if you think you are fighting for a good cause..be an advocate for the solution, not for the problem.
