I tend to listen to current affairs in the morning and just before I get to depressed I switch to any music station, from rap to country & western.Depending on the scenery and whether :-)

I'm something of a current affairs junky myself, mario....I follow it on BBC News 24 with the subtitles on. I don't listen to music any more, though. Can't hear it unless I put my hearing aids on, which I never do at home.

Yeah, there's not a lot of good news about at the moment mario, but I think it's important to stay informed.

Things are pretty much going according to plan. I'm going to take up squash again shortly after a break of 26 years or so. My counsellor thought it was a good idea.

How are things with you? I'm really glad you managed to get another job for yourself...you did very well there, given the current economic climate.

Its back with the old firm,I wouldn't be planing my future with them but they will do for the moment.

                          Army Thread 11th July 2009

                          Hiya Army!!

Mario, I enjoy driving, but not in traffic. Love the open roads, CD player on full blast - usually some older soft rock songs. But I do have a couple of CD's that I've recorded to listen to and I have Will Smith and Eminem on them. My soon-to-be daughter-in-law looked at me like I was an alien a couple of years ago when I said I'd had Eminem on while I was getting ready to go out. :H

Reccie - did you get out for a walk at all today? I just got back from a short walk a few minutes ago. Too :toohot: for a long walk. I went to the beach earlier, too but didn't stay that long. Just a short dip in the water. It was lovely but I was late going so didn't have as much time as I wanted to.

Edit - I just saw the part about you taking up squash again. :goodjob: :goodjob:. Fabulous - I'll be waiting to hear how it goes!!

Pingu - I like those shoes - I expect they're for the fall and winter? They look too hot for the summer.
As for that so-called counselor, I am amazed that he told you that. Go away and sort your head out? WTF, that's what counselors are supposed to help us do. And IMHO a counselor should be a bit less biased and not stand behind only one method of getting and staying sober. I know lots and lots of people go to AA have gotten and stayed sober. But lots have not and lots have gone back to drinking after a serious sober time. There are lots of examples of people on this forum who never went to AA and are sober and others who went for a couple of meetings, saw it didn't suit them and still got and stayed sober anyway. I have a friend who is sober since 19/09/99 and she still goes to AA meetings. She is very spiritual and she likes the meetings. She used to be an airline stewardess and looked up meetings all over the world. While I admire her for sticking to what works for her, it doesn't mean that it would work for everybody. I'm not sure I agree about the twelve steps and I'm not sure I would want to feel I was a failure if I didn't follow and complete them. Everyone can find what works for them. Just as long as we remember to never let our guard down as far as AL goes.

                          Hope Jackie is feeling better.

I saw Reggie stopped by earlier. I love that man - he has his own unique way of expressing himself.

Hope the rest of the Army are enjoying their afternoon/evening. Time to go put the A/C on and close the doors and windows to the mosquitoes....
